I have a slot open for a tang....recently I lost the star of my twin 180s a nasso tang....ate like a pig for months and was the boss...just one day quit eating and the next day died. All the rest of my fish are in supeb health.

One of the fish I am considering adding is a powder blue or an achilies. The tank is a 180 with lots of flow....a OM 4 way powered by a sequence 750....a bit stouter than a dart, and a tunze 6100 stream...tank mates are a yellow tail damsel, six line wrass, pj cardnal, bartletts anthias, small purple tang, tomine tang, and a regal angel along with a small flame angel....Im leaning towards an achilies if I can find one.....

achilies
it is just so pretty and I like the body shape better. I saw one at the New England Aquarium, I just fell in love with it. it really stands out from the rest of the fishes

achilles are very shy loner fish. I see a problem with your already established agressive tangs. b/c of this even if you do try it get it eating and healthy I can almost guarantee he will be injured and die. tangs are relentless and with the soft body of an achilles your be lucky if he lived through the fight. If you didnt have the other tangs in there i'd say go for it.

just my 2 c

Achilles are alright but a tad boring! Black with an orange tail not much compared to a powder blue! Plus powder blues are tough. Just feed them right and no problem.

i love the achilies i fell in love with them diving in hawaii when i saw a school of 500+
Wow...I'd be in awe... got any underwater pics of them?

Thanks for all the input. I tried my hand one last time with a nasso,,,found a smaller three to four inch blond nasso...so far the fish is eating the sea weed just fine and have not noticed any aggression.

keep in mind the adult size of these fish. the naso for sure gets to be a big fish. here is a picture of a huge one i saw at a store few weeks ago. it was in one of the largest tanks i have seen in a store.

both are beautiful fish,i have to say that if i had to choose one it would be the achilies.
as far as being hardy , i think the achilies is a bit stronger.

planning to get both for my 150 reef - wish me luck...

powder blue is a hardier fish, even though thats hard to say. The achilles requires a bit more then a PBT (excellent, excellent, excellent water quality and loves a ridiculous current). you would need to QT either one them. I have 13 tangs and love tangs, but I would never have either one of these fish. They are both tough fish.

If one does run into tang squabbles, you can catch them and use toenail clippers to relieve them of their barbs. They can grow back, but by the time they do, the fish will have learned to get along. I have used this method several times and it works great. Even if you do follow the tank size guidelines, you can still have terrritorial issues. It does not cause any harm to the fish, but allows them to flex ther muscles without inflicting damage to their mates.

here is my achillies had him 6 months he was easier than my hippo tang he will eat out of my hand, plus I dont know anybody else who has one, every body has powder blues
