Any success stories. Most sites claim them as temperament: semi-aggressive and reef compatiblity: with caution, which seems to me to mean "might eat my polps/zoas"????? I don' t want a nipper. Really like my diverse zoa population.

Thanks for the help.....

ive had mine for over two years and he's a model citizen in my 90, never touched a thing but red algae and food put into the tank.

I had a A. nigricans/ Powder Brown ,very long time a go the fish was a pet never was afraid of anything , i really love the fish.
I was new to any thing fish back then, i over dose the tank with copper and kill the fish

Which one? A. nigricans or A.japonicus ?

I was looking at the Acanthurus japonicus.

Thanks for everyones responses. Anthony, I checked out your pictures, very impressive. Thanks for the motivation.

I have been trying to decide who I want to be my main show fish. I have a pair of Black and White Ocellaris Clownfish - Tank-Bred, a school of 5 Spotted Cardinalfish, and a Spotted Mandarin in my 90 gallon display (with about 100 lbs of tonga and lalo live rock, about 100 lbs of south pacific live sand). Its a total 120 gallon system with 18 gallon Refug (which includes fugi mud, a deep sand bed, and about 5 lbs of rock) and about a 12 gallon sump (with MSX 160 skimmer and another 25 pounds of rubble). My tank is on its way to being softies, LPS middle and bottom, and some easy SPS top all under a Nova extreme 432 watt with a crazy bulb combo thanks to Reefer Madness and the guys at Reef Geek. I am really getting more into zoas and don't want a nipper........

Your tank size is what I would worry about. Acanthurus Tangs are very very active swimmers and can and will become aggressive in tight quarters. You have as much LR in your 90 as I have in my 240, this is good for filtration, bad for big swimmers. I wouldn't worry about the Zoos as much as I would the "stress level", and aggressiveness of the Tang.
