how many gallons per hour should you have for a 55 gallon?

as well, what is the best power head?

very difficult to answer because we do not know what you intend to keep, id suggest between 20-60 times per hour of flow, however this margin is large so more info is required, this of course is dependent on the use of living rock, hopefully you will re-post with more information

Just kidding, welcome to RC. Michael is right, it depends on the type of system you plan to keep, or are keeping. Certain systems like SPS corals need HIGH turn over. Other Soft Coral systems can be run with very little turn over (~10x and hour), and do fine.

So send us a little more info about your system and what you're keeping or plan to keep.

i have a bak pak system (biofilter and protien skimmer) and i think i'll be running a reef tank (with live rock). I have a pretty good lighting system but, i don't know what it is. (got it from a relative).
