power out

is the wind that bad up there?

its windy here, but nothing like how windy it gets in blacksburg normally every winter.

always best to have a battery operated air pump on hand to keep some circulation and aeration going in the tank. temps can get to mid 60's without any probs IMO.

I used to go through pretty big temp swings in the old apartment with no ill effects... Just keep the water surface moving.. Let us know how it goes

If you have one of those battery operated fans you could set it up to blow on the surface of the tank if you can get a decent speed out of it and it might be enough to break the water surface and keep it oxygenated, but you would also be cooling it off? So I'm stumped other than a generator.

Pet Smart usually has battery operated air pumps with an air stone. They keep things circulating a bit. I have one or two. If you can't find one, want to make a road trip toward Forest (Bedford County near Lynchburg)?

I have also heated pots of water on a gas stove and floated it in the tank for warmth.

Good Luck

Battery powered Air stone is about the best you can do without going deep into your pockets.
Power Yet?

I just talked to Sam , He said he does not have power and likely will not for a few days ... I think he has had some substantial losses allready. I have offered for him to bring some stuff over this way , so hopefully when he gets everything situated we can save some of his stuff... What a nightmare ... I'm gonna go make some water...

Yeah my power went out yesterday while I was in Roanoke getting supplies for my stand. It just came back on a few minutes ago. I don't have any SW fish right now but in my FW tank the temp was down to 69 F. I hope those who lost power can save their fish and corals. I have never witnessed such a bad wind storm here until yesterday.
Sam good luck!
