Is livestock just fish? Sorry to hear. That is such an empty feeling knowing you couldn't do much. Are all of your pumps plugged into a GFCI outlet? My closed loop is not plugged into a GFCI just in case power goes out. Once the power comes back on the CL kicks back on without having to reset the GFCI.

How long was the outage?
There are many backup solutions that range from $20 up to $6,000. You can get a battery powered air pump that senses when the power goes off and the battery kicks on and starts bubbling.
There are deep cycle batteries that can run pumps for a short period of time.
There are power inverters that you can plug into your car and it converts the voltage to AC and can then plug in any key equipment to it.
On the extreme are natural gas powered whole house generators that fire up automatically and can power your entire home off of your gas line.

Ya, I lost Yellow Tang, Kole Tang, Midas Blenny, Radiant Wrasse, 6 Line Wrasse, Manadarin, Hawk, Shrimp Goby, All Cleaner Shrimp, 2 Serpents, 1 Sand Sifter, Coral Banded Shrimp (RIP). The only fish that made it were Rod's Clowns. The power was out for 12hrs. - 14hrs. when I went out lastnite and checked this morning they were dead. The Temp was at 71 degrees. No lost Corals maybe some Yumas, but that was it. I do have them plugged into a GFCI, but I was wondering if I could just get some kind of UPS setup or maybe even something I can plug in that will alarm when power is out at that receptacle.

Teremei - Uninterruptible power supply - They are worth their weight in gold for computers, they give you a chance to shut down if your power goes out. Also comes with software so that if you are not home it shuts it down on it's own.

I was at the Frye Electronics in Gowners Grove the other day looking at the UPS units. The question I have is what to do about water temp? The smaller SEIO will be great to keep some circulation, but what about thw 71 degrees?

check out this insurance policy do a search on Centurian generators. or powermadeeasy.com they have a good picture of it check out the 4 circuit model 3500 watts self contained unit perfect size for most systems.
guardian generac may still sell the centurion generators i could check out Latest pricing. In my 04 05 pricing list unit was under $1700.00 with tax and shipping if anyone is interested let me Know the unit is DIY & will start up on power loss and self test every week. outages are why i bought a whole house generator for my tank and chiller and oh ya some of the house. At that time i became a dealer, i really dont advertise to sell them but if anybody is interested i would like to help anyone prevent what i went through 1.5 days of no power, lost almoet everythng

Check out www.buy.com. They have daily & wkly specials that often have UPS. I paid $27.99 incl shipping for my 500VA about 2 wks ago.

Garrick or anyone else for that matter. I went to the Comp USA near Fox Valley mall and got a 750VA for 30% off. The store is closing and there are a lot of good deals. I ended up paying $69. As of right now my return pump is plugged in, however knowing that it will suck down the battery I am considering plugging something else in instead. I don't have any room for powerheads though. I guess if the temp falls you build a campfire by the tank
