Power supply for Jebao power heads.

I unplugged my wp40s this weekend to calm my water down so I could kill some aptasia. When I plugged them back in, one of them wasn't working right.

Seems like the power supply isn't working correctly. It just pulses small bursts of electricity, enough to turn the impeller a couple times and then stops. It does that roughly once a second.

I've looked on Reefbreeders, Amazon, and fish-street, etc and can't seem to locate parts for sale.

Any thoughts on where to pick up a new power supply?

I would just order the twins controller from fish street it comes with controller and power supply. First try switching the controller and see if that works but always unplugg the power supply from power plug never at the contoller i have found that if you do that taking a chance on taking out the controller.

I had something similar happen with my Jebao power head. The impeller stopped moving entirely after I had shut it down for a few minutes during a water change. It turned out that it just needed a good cleaning. Some muck had built up around the impeller shaft. Once I tore it apart and gave it a good cleaning, it worked perfectly afterwards.

Jebao's have a reputation for requiring more frequent cleanings to keep them operating normally. I notice that the flow starts to drop off noticeably after just a few months and continues to deteriorate until cleaning it. So I just clean mine every two months now.

I would try a good vinegar cleaning before purchasing a new power supply.

I vinegar clean my tunzes and jebos monthly which is a good time to examine the magnets to ensure no cracks in the seals.

I had one do that. When I plugged the other powered into the controller in question, the power head worked. something with the pump cuz the pump didn't work when I plugged it into the "good" controller.
Didn't try to clean it though

I tried switching the power supply to the other pump. It worked for a few minutes, but then stopped.

I looked at the twin controller that Tigerdragon mentioned and I think I'm going to go that route.

I think eventually I'm going to try a Gyre, but that will have to wait.

I have to clean my jabeo power heads all the time because they stop. Take them apart give them a vinegar bath and scrub and they are all good for another month or two. I guess you get what you pay for.

Love the gyre. Just picked up a Icecap controller for the one I have . Curious to see what it can do.

I have the twin controller, and it works fine for me. Just make sure you order it with the correct power supply. I run 2x wp10's, and a wp25 in a 65g as the flow suffers a LOT when they get dirty. Vinegar baths about once a month keep ours running smooth and quiet.

When you guys say they stop working, what do you mean? Is it similar to my experience, where they were working one minute and then wouldn't restart after you plugged them in again?

I guess I'll give them a bath before I spend any money on them.

Them working up until a shutdown and then not wanting to restart a short time later is a VERY strong indication that all they need is a good cleaning.

Basically, the impellar shaft is full of gunk. While it was already spinning, it had the momentum to keep working against the added friction. But all the gunk is too much friction to overcome when starting up from a complete stop.

I gave it a good cleaning. There was a lot of gunk on the impeller, but it brushed off easily with a toothbrush.

I put it back I the tank, plugged it in, and it immediately started pumping....for about 90 seconds. It pulses on and off, like a heartbeat, every second. And the lights on the controller flash with the pulse.

It's very strange. I suppose I have exhausted all of my simple options to fix the thing without buying a new controller. At least the new controller part isn't super expensive and will sync both of them.

Yes that is what mine does. Sometimes they shut off for feeding and never restart. Powerheads and my return pump all have the same issue. I have to completely break down the units. Including removing the impellar, shaft and magnet assembly and clean. Just brushing the gunk off will not do it. Vinegar bath and brushing works for me once it is all apart.
