Powerhead Placement

I have 72 gal and more flow than you. So I don't think you have too much flow. I agree with the above recommend placement -- back wall near the corners with the flow pointed toward the center of the front wall. However, before you point the powerheads, I would move your hammer and torch midway down on the inner sides on your live rock. This placement should protect them from the full power of the flow. Their current placement is probably going to get too much flow no matter where you put the powerhead.

I would put them in each back corner and direct them toward the front. Example would be point the powerhead approx. 1/4 from the side to front. Both head will meet in the middle creating a good flow back. You can position your LPC where the current isnt so powerful. That way you get a good circulation. I do think intermittent is better than continues flow.

It's hard to see in the pic but I'm running my return over the top in the right corner which is forcing me to lower the powerhead on that side.

Is it bouncing off the glass? If i try and do that i end up blowing sand everywhere.

If you put them in the back right and left corners on the side glass up against the wall, angle them slightly up and toward the front, and let them collide....corals will love it.

Thanks...im giving it a try now. I will let you all know how it works. My hammer is whipping around a little, we will see if it gets unhappy.

I have a 90 as well and have 2 Korilla 3's and 2 korilla 4's. I have one 3 & 4 in each corner works really well and I dont really have any dead spots in the tank. Ill snap a pic when the lights come on...

I think these powerheads might be too strong for my tank. Can too much flow hurt a torch coral or a frogspawn?

Where these corals grow naturally people get flushed out to sea and drowned by the current. Too much flow is rarely a problem as long as you do not direct the ph straight for a coral...and some corals even like that.

Flow rates follow the same principles as pruning roses.....

Perfect! - not enough

Too much! - Still not enough.

OMG!!! I killed it!!!! - Perfect!

Ok. Here's a pic of the 110 predator tank. There are two 1050 Evo's, plus an effective 700gph return pump via two nozzles.

Do you run all your powerheads at the same time? Or do have them on a wavemaker?

Here's the reef tank, 150 gallons with twin corner overflows, but similar principle in powerhead placement, with the tank kind of divided into two 75 gallon areas. The powerheads are all 1400 gph Evos, though
