Power's out, Water's out, and Generator's on the fritz!

I had to come into work this morning (in case you were wondering how I got onto the internet)...

I'm only working a couple hours and then going home...

I have a B&S powered 3550 watt generator, but it won't run right... I can start it and it will run at full choke, 3/4, half, and even run at 1/4 choke, but as soon as I flip it all the way to "RUN" it bog's out and the engine dies.

I think it could be old gas, the gas in there is slightly under 1 year old (I had put Sta-ble (sp?) in there, that stuff that's supposed to keep the gas fresh).

Now I'm starting to think that the carb might be gummed up and the gas bad.

Anyone know what I can do with the old gas?

Also, our water started working again this morning, but I heard on the radio we are under a boil order... How will this affect my RO/DI unit??

HELP!

Figures, my wife just called to tell me that the power is back on now!, Whew...

Oh well, if anyone has some idea's on fixing the generator, I'd be happy to hear them, I still need to help out my grandparents and my parents who are all without power, and have freezer's full of food!

With regards to the water, we were under a boil order before and I sent an email to airwaterice.com to ask them if running the water through the RO/DI would still be effective and if it would have any adverse effects on the unit. They said that with the hurricanes down there in FL where they are, that they went through these boil orders often and everything was perfectly fine to run the RO/DI during boil orders.

Anyone know anything about small engines/generators?

I'm glad that GWA found one, I was going to offer mine, but since it doesn't work it's not much good to anyone right now.

hey rottie pull the float bowl off the carb, thats the boottom of the carb. it is probably held on with one big nut. once the nut is off slowly remove the bowl, it might take a bit of persuation to get it off. once off take off the rubberband gasket around the top of the bowl. then clean out the bowl with carb cleaner, and if possible spray some up the bottom of the carb where the bowl was. then put it all back together.

Now my internet has been down most of the day, phone's just started working again! THis has been one big nightmare

Witche42 - it worked! I took the bowl off, and there was a ton of gunk in there. It looks to me like they plated the bowl with something on the inside, and whatever it was was coming off in flakes. One small flake got into a tiny little hole that was in the bolt holding that bowl on. I finally found some wire thin enough to get in there and clean it out. I hosed it down with gumout carb cleaner real good too.

It seems to be working now, I'm heading over to my parents house, thier freezer is full of meat and hasn't been running in nearly 24 hours....

Thanks again!

For the future, its not a bad idea to run your carb dry of gas (or even the entire tank so that you won't have any problems with old gas gumming up the carb.
