Prazi Pro in display tank?

I can probably guess the answer to this one:

As some already know, my clownfish seemed to have Ich or possibly flukes. The male had some small specks and the female was itching against the thermometer and a few other things in the tank.

I set up a QT tank and transferred the fish to it. I started with Seachem's Stability and Cupramine copper with 1/2 dose the first day, then 1/2 dose the second day. Unfortunately, the male died sometime between the 2nd and 3rd day. The female was acting a bit strangely in the QT tank, which led me to believe that something was "off". I put her back in the display tank.

She's doing fine now - she's eating and seems pretty happy. She does still seem to itch against some things, but not as much. I feel bad that she lost her hubby because they were such a nice pair, but all I can do is try to learn from it.

I think something's wrong with the QT tank, but I can't find out why. Ammonia seemed to be 0-0.25 (couldn't tell with kit), Copper was still low (0-0.25), 0 nitrites. Not sure what happened to the male.

I'm letting the QT tank run and will monitor the conditions. It's a little distressing to not understand what exactly killed the poor guy, but I'll keep learning.

So bottom line is - I've got a QT tank I don't quite trust yet and a fish that may or may not be sick. I have Prazi Pro and had planned to medicate the fish after finishing the copper treatment. But that's on hold until I figure out the QT tank. Would Prazi Pro be acceptable to a reef tank with corals / invertebrates? I typically wouldn't want to add medication to a display tank for any reason unless it's a last resort, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Thanks to everyone for their help before! I wish I could say there was a happier ending, but that's life. Once we get a better handle on the QT tank and everything, I may start asking how to pair a male with our widow. (If that's even possible.)

Can you clarify dosing? 1/2 of first dose then half of second dose part?
if you did half and half of first part you should be at 0.25 then the second round 48 hours later you can do half and half which would have brought you to .5 is this what you did?
Also as far as ammonia,How much of a water change were you doing in the 10 gallon tank per day? and yes most kits will not read free ammonia while treating with copper. Is this a new Qt tank? Sorry if this info was in your origional post :)

If using Stability to setup your QT you should NOT use Cupramine for at least a week until the bacteria have a chance to stabilze.

From Seachems tech staff....

Argh! Was typing up a response and locked the machine at work and someone came along and rebooted the machine.

I know I didn't type things very clearly - my apologies for that. Here's the sequence of events:

Day 1: Started 10-gal QT tank. Added full start dose of stability
Day 2: Added full follow-up dose of stability. Added fish at end of day. Added 1/4 dose of cupramine copper.
Day 3: Did 3 gallon water change. Added full follow-up dose of stability. Added 1/4 dose of cupramine copper.

At this point I expected around 0.2125 mg/L Cu concentration (not quite 0.25 mg /L due to removing 30% of the water on Day 3 w/o replenishing the lost copper). However, I wanted to take it slow.

Day 4: Came home to find male had died during the day. Female was returned to display tank.

I was planning to use day 5 and day 6 to bring it up near 0.5 mg / L.

I did read a post on Seachem's forums that stated stability should be used for "several days" before using Cupramine. I had decided that using stability in conjunction with decent water changes would be able to fight the ammonia/nitrite buildup.

Yeah sorry this got derailed a little on you. Seems like you did everything right, and just so you know you do not need to use stability during copper treatment,I have used it in the past just as you did, on the first day put it in and same day added my fish (after all it is a hospital tank) and some fish can not wait a week to start treatment. But a seeded sponge or some seeded media would do the same if not better.
I am currently treating in a brand new 10 gallon tank (same as you) using cupramine with 1 seeded sponge ,little bowl of sand from the display , a little hang on the back filter and an airstone. Took me close to a week to ramp up the dose of copper because of the sensitive fish Im treating. The said fish has been in Qt for over a week and Im doing daily 5 gallon waterchanges and so far no amm spikes and copper level is not being effected by bowl full of sand I have in the tank.
Sometimes its better to go against the rules and put a few pieces of live rock rubble or sand in the tank while treating than to worry about spikes. You may have to use more cupramine but for me Id rather use more than risk a spike. :)
but I think if you at least had something good and seeded and were doing daily (large) water changes you should have not seen a spike?

Anyhow back on topic Ive heard a lot of people using prazi in the display with good results. :) What do the spots look like on the fish?
