prazipro killed naso?

I dosed prazipro 3 days ago to clear up flukes on a yellow tang. Yesterday I noticed my Naso Tang did not eat. This morning it was on it's side barely breathing. I put him in a QT that I had set up but I doubt he will make it. He is on his side barely breathing. Could the prazipro have poisoned the Naso? I've had him about 3 months and he was eating and acting fine. I never noticed any flukes on him or anything wrong with him.

I turned my skimmer back on and added new carbon. I didn't do a water change. All other fish seem to be doing okay, including the yellow tang who had the flukes to begin with.

Any thoughts?

Not likely - your yellow tang is still o.k.? Also - in the other thread you said you were dosing a reef...if the other animals are all o.k., it wouldn't be an over-dose of prazi that is the culprit here.

*If* the fish dies, open one of its gill covers, pale pink gills indicate anemia. One of the concerns I have with using prazi to cure flukes, is that in heavy infestations, so many flukes drop off that the fish literally bleeds out from all the holes the flukes left in their body or gills. Your naso could have had gill fukes bad enough to cause this, and you would never see any obvious symptoms beforehand.....

It also could be totally unrelated to flukes - it is not impossible to have multiple infections at the same time - protozoan and flukes, flukes and bacteria, or maybe all three.

I've used it hundreds of times and never lost any fish due to praziquantel except when I dosed flashlight fish with it after I dissolved it in ethanol....

I was thinking along the same lines regarding all of the other fish being fine. I'm fairly certain I didn't overdose. What is weird is that the Naso has been fine for 3-4 months since I've got him. If it was that bad prior to Prazipro, wouldn't I have seen problems by now? How could the fish been doing so well if it was so infected?

The Naso was the last fish added to the tank. In theory it could have given the Yellow Tang (introduced in February) the flukes and it just took this long to catch up????

Generally, the last fish in the tank brings the disease in, unless the additions are fairly close together. Also, the fish bringing the disease in usually succumbs first, but not always. Usually flukes take their toll around 1 to 3 months after getting their start in a tank. Can you see inside the fish's gill covers while its still in the tank?

quinine killed my naso once ... nasos die from stress like medications if they dont already have enough swimming room

The Naso was in the DT (150g) at the time I found him this am. I can't see into the gills but it is still alive in the QT as of 7:30pm. It is attempting to move around every now and then. I'm surprised it's not dead yet. I've never had a fish go this long while having these symptoms.

I feel like I brought all of this on by dosing but I guess it was bound to happen if the Naso brought the flukes. At least the other fish are still okay and I didn't lose everything which could have happened eventually.

I blame my Naso's death on bleeding out from flukes. I had my Naso for over a year and was so bummed about its death, almost made me quit.

Well the Naso finally died. I looked into it's gills and they were dark pink, about the color of raw tuna. The skin also became very blotchy.

I hear you on the "I quit" part. I said the same thing when I saw it the first morning.

Prazipro isn't likely to kill the fish. I dosed my entire display with a very strong dose of prazi for a month. My Naso wasn't as active but I think that was because the skimmer was turned off. Now that my skimmer is on he is back to normal.
