I have Flukes in my DT. Pretty sure that the source is a Scotts Fairy wrasse that was treated(once) with prazi in QT even though no flukes or symptoms were evident. Now he is loaded:headwalls:. All appeared external and rather large. None evident on gills as best I could tell without hurting the wrasse. Most came off with a 5 minute dip in PH adjusted RO water.
So the question is obvious and asked so many times before so I will ask it differently. Other than killing off feather dusters and some other worms has anyone on this forum personally or by word of mouth heard of negative experiences using Prazi on a reef DT? Being more specific has Prazi totally screwed up healthy tanks? I am not talking about one or two corals biting the dust either. I am talking effects occuring similar to putting cupramine or an antibiotic that wipes out the beneficial bacteria in the DT.
Obviously no one wants to treat a DT with a highly toxic chemical that will directly or indirectly kill fish, corals or the tanks beneficial bacteria, however like most reefers I do not have enough QT space to treat all my fish at once assuming I can catch them all. Also IMHO the process of catching, QTing and treating all these fish usually results in some losses even if done very carefully.
After many hours scouring the web I can find no conclusive answer, just opinions. One side says it is safe as long as you follow directions, do major water changes and remove the rather short list of valuable organisms known to be succeptable to Prazi. The other side implies ,without objective data, that treating the DT with Prazi is heresy and that positive outcomes have been due to dumb luck. One side of this spectrum of opinions must be more true than the other. Any and all knowledgable input would be appreciated so I can make a smart decision. If possible I would really like to treat the DT since nearly half of the residents in my 110 gallon display are sand sleeping wrasses.
