For the pioneers:

Vista Gadget

Note: The download appears to save the file as a .ZIP (technically a gadget is a zip file with a .gadget extension). If this happens for you you can either rename the file to have a ".gadget" extension or unzip the contents directly into the Vista gadget folder located at: "C:\Users\[account name]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets"

(It is also available from the website, same location as the simulator).

This is what is looks like and what is does in this version:

The gadget will connect to the site, read status and timer states. You can configure a timer (default=ALM) which, when "on" will cause the status text to be shown in red (green when off).

"Large window" makes the gadget larger (more room for timer states). When floating the gadget is always shown using the large window size (I will add separate state management in the next drop).

Double-click the gadget will open the website for the AC3. I was going to have a flyout but the authentication challenge causes a separate window to open anyway (I'll investigate further).

Please let me know if this works for you and send me ideas for what you would like to see added.

Enjoy.

Cool, I will have to try it out when I get home tonight. Thank you for all the time and effort you have put into this project.

Installed it but the whole option window does not show..., the large window section gets cut off...

Also having problems connecting.

Cheekmonkey and RokleM,

Can you PM me a screen shot so I can see about the amount of space you would like? Are you interested in seeing all timers without scrolling?

Cheekmonkey, do you use port 80 or another port?

Correct, I'd like to see it without scrolling. I have 3 items off screen I have to scroll to see, and will likely add a couple more.

CoOl toy. Now only if vista worked ;)
Seriously thanks for the community involvement, its cool little things these that bring two of my favorite subjects together. Plus I think all of us like to fiddle with our reefs, this just gives us another opportunity to do it from work.

It is connecting fine the first time, but when it goes to refresh it says "server error". Maybe wrong port?

Right now I have it set to 80, but to be honest, I don't know what the port is for, when I visit my AC3 webpage all that I need is the IP

How about a shortcut button for "tank conditions report" generation. Should be able to link directly to the query for the access report.

Ken, when I put my IP address in (172.22.222.3) it always comes back connection failed, but if I double click the gadget it does correctly open up the right IP screen for login.

Same problem here, but I can get mine to load once then when it goes to refresh "server failed". Using port 80.

Just got back into the country (away for the weekend); are those who have installed this working or are there still some failures?

I am preparing the next drop for end of week with a few changes so far (see below). If you have requests, please let me know and I will see if I can get them in this time around.

* If no port specified (e.g., port field changed to blank) then port 80 will be used

* Removed image background, using color instead to give a little more width for status.

* Large window defaults to 350 pixels (slightly larger than before) but the size is located in the settings window

* Notification for new version is available will appear at the bottom of the gadget

Considerations:

* Click notification on status area and control area. I am considering having the 2 areas going to separate web pages on the AC3

* Color based on status of lights. Maybe use a configuration setting which lists light sources, in order or brightness and change the background from dark (all off) to light (all on) based on the state of the light timers.

* Other wish list items from users?

My wish list:
1. URL entry for internet access with port input, currently this will only work locally.
2. How about a shortcut button for "tank conditions report" generation. Should be able to link directly to the query for the access report.
