Precautions for Tank Cracks

I have read horror stories of tanks cracking. I am buying a nuvo 30L for $300 in 2 days. Now, I have read that nuvo tanks crack a lot. I am putting this in my room. I really don't want to come home to a tank leak all over my room and major floor damage leading to the first floor. Is there any precaution I can take, especially when I am not home?

Placing any tank on an absolutely smooth & level surface is your best defense. Measure for level side to side, front to back and corner to corner. Shim the stand if needed.

Unless you're getting a tank that's been abused, you probably have nothing to worry about. 30 gallons exerts only a modest pressure on the glass. MOST cracking events happen on much larger tanks.

Agree. Flat, properly supported stand is the most important thing (which is why most tank warranties are void if you us a DIY stand).

+1. Flat, level, structurally sound stand and a tank that is in good shape. (No glass chips, damaged seams, etc.)
