I am trying to find the best way to handle the bio load from an aggressive FOWLR tank. I don't over feed but there is still going to be a lot of waste with predators. Everything I read on the newer means of filtration is based on or geared to reef tanks. Are mangrove and mud sumps beneficial to this type of tank? Are wet/drys a good first stage to sumps or are they a thing of the past? Do refugiums help with fowlr? Does algae go into a sump or a refugium?
My thoughts at this time are to have two Lifereef overflows, one on each end of the 140 gal. One will feed an in sump lifereef skimmer and the other will feed a wet/dry with prefilter media and carbon, drip down to the bioballs then go onto a sump with mangroves then to a sump with mud then to a sump with live rock and the skimmer then back up to the tank. If the algae is important I can add that some where, there is room for six 10 gal. tanks under my 140. I could also add a closed loop system if it is beneficial to a fowlr.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Also if someone knows what order is best for the sump media... should mud be before mangroves.. ect.
