preg cardinals

I was feeding my fish today and noticed a fin sticking out of my cardinal's mouth. Is it too late to try to get a set up going for them? Is there a way to do it without them having their own tank? I am new to the breeding, just got lucky with a pair I bought a few months ago.

if you don't manage to get them out of the immediate area that others are in.. you can expect the others to have lunch. a simple breeders net.. ($5 at the LFS) will house the baby's until you have time to house them properly. If you don't have experience with them, the male will release the babies after your lights have gone out most of the time.. my guess would be safety for the kids to find cover. if you have a blue night light over your tank the babies will be released and then swim for the light. this is the only real time your going to have to get them out with a net easily. do yourself and them a favor and turn down the flow on your tank while this is happening. good luck :)

you could also use a plastic container if you dont have breeders net handy.. pop an air stone in with them as well,,, make sure its on very very slow .. these lil guys are easily tossed and turned.

Since they have already hatched, odds are they will be realeased fairly soon. Usually in about 5 days, but I've seen in take a few longer and alot shorter as well. They may also release over the course of a few days, but the majoirty of my releases have all been at once and overnight. And yes, they will be fish food without a breeders net of sorts going on.
