Pregnant H. reidi

I believe my H. reidi is pregnant. Well, I am positive. i noticed it about a week ago.

I have set up 12G nano with tank water and it is running 24/7, empty.

I am planning on transfering him in there in a few days so the fry can be born in there, where they will remain while I care for them.

Anything I oughta be doing to be prepared?

How much longer should he be pregnant for? Should I move him immediately?

reidi are usually pregnant for 14 days, give or take a few days in either direction.

you're going to have trouble with the fry in that tank. reidi are pelagic, and will end up swimming to the surface and gulping air, usually a death sentence for them. i like using a large fish bowl, which you can hook up with an airline about halfway down the curved side to make a circular flow that keeps them off the surface. you can also submerge a small fish bowl in the tank and keep the fry in there, hooking up either an airline hose or small pump to do the same.

you'll likely need rotifers or small copepods to raise reidi. they can take bbs from birth but most won't make it. for copepods, i'd talk to adelaide at oceanpods.com. seahorsesource.com carries rotifers.
