Hi Folks,

Premium Aquatics has received their rock order of Fiji & Tonga Branch rock. Mind you that the rock is curing at this time but if you can do it yourself to cure the rock, you can get the first picks. The Fiji rock is very colorful, it is worth your time to come down to look at before the price goes up, as it will be sold as premium Fiji rock.

That's nice, I hate when stores up prices on rock because THEY think is it premium! I was at the hidden reef at week ago, where I got the 360g tank and they had rock for 2.89lb, some of it had some nice coralline and growth on it. I woulda picked some up, but I am broke! Don't know if that was a special or what, but that isn't a bad price. On the Philly boards, there was another place that offered real cheap rock, can't remember where, pet plus in redlion? Something like that.

I remember when base rock was $10-$12 a pound...this rock was bare, no growth at all. It all came from Florida in those days, and it was dense...probably double the weight of the same size rock from Fiji.

Actually, it was so expensive, I made a trip to Florida and collected my own.. A few years later they banned all live rock collection from Florida. A few years after that, they started farming it down there.

It was expensive back in the day? About 5-10 years ago, my friend that was in the hobby said rock was cheap, dirt cheap, now prices are ridiculous he says. Guess prices have been very up and down.

HI Folks,

Let's be fair to the shops. Do you know what the stores do to get the rock ready? There’s the time it takes to clean the rock to get it ready for curing. Then there is the cost of the water and salt for all the water changes needed during the curing process. So when a store raises the price on a few pieces it is an effort to recoup some of the cost that they had put into the rock. One last point that Ken brought up is the price charged by the airlines for fuel and deliver. These charges are on top of the purchase price of the rock. Most stores can not keep eating these costs or we would not have the stores to go to buy our fish, rocks, inverts and supplies in your area.

Premium Aquatics is trying to bring you the best prices possible on all its products and make a profit to stay in business. They would like to grow into the best store in the area. Please help them do so and we thank you for all of your support.

Enjoy the hobby

Tom

Yeah, but all of the rock cost the same amount to ship and cycle and the whole process, and they are just charging more because it looks pretty. Im not saying that its only them either, most pet stores do it.

Heard dat! There is no reason one place has it at 1.99 a pound and another is 6.99 ....
That's why when you go into most of the lfs there tank of live rock is the same all the time doesn't even look like they sold any. I bought mine @ just fish for 6.99 and I have 140 lbs in my 90g. And I spent like 980 I think and I could have got for like 350... you live and learn fast in this hobby that bargain shopping is necessary!!!!!!!!!!

A lot of other places to look is people are always getting rid of rock, breaking down tanks etc. I got quite a bit a few months back (all gone now) for real cheap, 2-2.50 a lb. I don't see a need to pay the extra for premium rock when I can get the cheapier version, and it can be premium in a matter of a couple months. I am either going to get my rock from THR (2.89lb on certain pieces) or look for someone local breaking a tank down.
