Preparing for nigripes--how to quarantine

So, in the next two weeks, i will have about 10 Nigripes coming in for my 240G cube.
As i have heard they are notoriously bad shippers, i want to be prepared to treat them upon arrival. I have a 30G quarantine tank ready for them with a power head, and a remora pro skimmer.

Those who have these clowns and who have dealt with them, how did you quarantine and what should i be looking for?
Copper, pipzine? Hypo?
Not sure what they usually come in with and what they need so i am looking for some feedback for this so i can get some healthy clowns....
Thanks
Austin

i tried several methods ranging from a UV sterilizer to copper and maracyn, to freshwater dips and formalin dips. none were successful. the two i have now succeeded, i believe, because both had been at other stores for a significant portion of time.

id probably try to seperate them into several ten gallons, use depressed salinity and darken the tanks. theyre aggressive little clowns, even when stressed.

although, another approach that might work just as well, is to keep them with an established sponge filter, and some form of anemone they can immediately hide in. keeping the tank dimly lit for the first several days would help too. even after having my pair for nearly two years, theyre still super shy fish.

will these be transhipped fish? if so, that might increase your odds of success as well...

good luck austin.

Ditto!
I've herd they stress super easy & are very shy skiddish fish. I'd make the QT as stress free, natural & with plenty of hiding places. I'd also not sit and stare at them for a long time (like I'd want to do!)

Good luck! I really hope you get a good survival rate with them! they are one of my favorite clowns

Yes transshipped in. I'm hoping that will help.
Do you think i will have a problem keeping them in a group in the 240?
I have my 29 i could put them in w/my mag and some lr....Wonder if that would work.
I think i'm going to post this on rcf forums to see what they have to say....
thanks bud.

i believe if you have more than one magnifica in your 240, and theyre large....i dont think youll have a problem. then again, i dont know of anyone who has attempted this before, so....youll be laying down some groundwork here. i was going to attempt it in my 60 gallon...but, couldnt get any of the guys to survive QT.

Well I had mine in a 42 gallon hex which sat in a dark corner of my apartment at the time and was full of LR. I had worked for an LFS so I was able to take them home before they hit the stores tank, and slow dripped them. They looked stressed from shipping, but they did well for me. That was years and years ago though, I haven't tried to keep them since. Hope everything works out. keep us updated. Oh btw I started feeding live foods before I transitioned to solids, not sure if this helped them or not.
Cheers

would like to offer some help but my nigripes is tank raised . didn't have a prob as i bought it the day it came to the store and didn't use cu+ because i wasn't sure if it would be sensitive . just watched it . haven't had ich in the tank since an outbreak many many years ago , so still can't answer that .
btw i would've got two had i known how scarce they are , as it was when i called for another two weeks latter i was told they all sold . haven't come across them since . keep us posted and good luck with them .
