Good luck everyone. Should voting be done via another method, like PM, email or on the GIRS website?

I just want to make sure this election is fair for everyone and eliminate any doubt about the results.

If there is interest in suspending the elections for a day or two I have found a site online that will allow you to set up elections. It will send a registration code to users to use to get in to vote. It will then publish the vote when the poll is over.

Let me know thoughts on this.

Heh. I hate to admit it but I think this way is kind of screwy....it should have just been a "list who you want for these positions" type thread, the only benefit to doing it this way is everyone is anonymous.

Agreed, I would like to see this over as fast as anyone else, but I think it should be done right. If possible I would like to see it set to run Nov. 1st so it stays inline with the bylaws also. I know we didn't do it that way in the past, but we have not made it to Nov. with a president yet either... :D

Another idea is to have the preidential election first, then run your VP, Sec., and Tres. That way if someone wants to rerun for another spot they still are able to do so. We wouldn't want to lose a person that wants to help the club because they lost the one race they had their name listed in and we are not being fair to those listed in multiple races either as they lose votes to the other titles. Example being if I ran for Pres. and for tresurer some would vote for me as tresurer and not vote for me as Pres because they already put me in another spot. I hope that was clear... Now I will return to ducking and hiding... LOL :D

Last year I had everyone PM me. It was a pain in the rear but that was the only fair way I could think of at the time.

Election committee

Election committee

I am also not comfortable with the open polling, there is no control of who votes and nothing stopping someone from voting for the same member for multiple positions.

My suggestion would be to set up an election committee of around 3 people, let them take the votes. It would be simple, easy and fair. This could be done using the PM system. I'll even volunteer to help out with this if the BOD is ok with the committee idea.

I assume their is a complete and up to date members list somewhere? With this the committee can confirm membership before adding the vote to the tally. I also feel that with members running for multiple positions, we need to start at the President and work down, so that one person isn't being voted for in multiple elections.

Billy,

Just so you didnt think I read right past this, this is also a good idea. My only concern this late in the game, is can we get ALL the emails of every member in time? In reality, the voting should not take place until Nov. still may be hard to get them all by then unless we already have a list?? It is something we should look into for the future, would make this much more efficient and fair.

Either way, I do feel a committee could help tremendously here.

I agree on updating the email list. Looking on the site though I found another option for getting the information to the membership to go vote. You can also set a registration code up and pm that to the members. They would then use that code to log in and vote with.

Hmm, that could work. We would still need an up to date members list, but yeah, I like that.

We could have Bob, Allen, & Travis be the committee since they are not running for any positions & are senior members. Agreed should be one at a time for a 72 hour period.

I just did a little messing around with the site Billy found, this could work very well, fairly easy to set up and should keep it to members only on the voting. I will just wait and see if this seems like a good idea to the BOD and the members at large.

Just a note, to make this work, we would need a list of EVERY members RC name.

I think this is a good idea as well to ensure only members are voting.

You would need everyone's RC name OR email - but I would think that you should have it for most (i think there's a member list on the GIRS website, don't know how up to date it is, I'm not on it because I just paid dues about 3 weeks ago, but I know I filled out my email and RC name when I paid online.)

Also emailing (or PMing which would more than likely send them a notification email) would also let the members who do not come to this forum on a regular basis know we're voting and so potentially there would be a higher voter turnout...

I think we should have everybody register on the GIRS website and vote through a poll there would be the way to go. We can set up a poll there and set it to "hide results".

That site is a tool for GIRS. We might as well make use of it.

A committee is definitely the way to go.

I like the balloting website idea. It leaves no room for error once we get everyone qualified to vote. It also still keeps this annonymous. I think we have a great set of canidates this time and we really need this to be a fair as we can make it. I believe no matter how this turns out the club really wins. Good luck to everyone and let me know if I can help in any way.

Keep in mind, anyone can register to the club site as well, to my knowledge their isn't a way to prevent non-members from voting there either. I could be wrong on this though.
