Preventative Treatments

Just wondering how many or any of you out there do preventative treatments against ich or flukes. I got 2 fish in QT tank and was trying to decide whether or not to treat them with prazipro once and then cupramine in a couple weeks or just do either of them only if the fish show signs of the diseases. Just trying to get input and see what everyone else does.

I have heard couple people say only treat if you see the disease and others say treat them to be safe so i dunno. Seems i hear people say LFS run copper in there system to minimize ich in their fo tanks.

I treat all new fish in QT with Prazipro for 2 weeks and Cupramine for 3 to 4 weeks reguardless as to if I see any disease or not. The only exception would be if I notice an adverse affect to the medication. Then I would discontue treatment but would leave in QT longer.

Has worked well for me.

Cool was thinking about treating for preventative measures, wasnt for sure how much stress the copper put the fish under.

I now treat every single incoming fish with Cupramine and Prazi-Pro regardless of any symptoms. Just way too many issues in the past with "hidden" diseases.

+1 on the prazipro right off the bat. Then, because i keep butterflys,i tend to hold off on the cupramine until i have them eating well, and careful observation for the next 3 weeks.
Generally,at 4 weeks, you are going to know if you need to treat for other problems. But there is nothing wrong with treating both meds from the start.

jc16-you asking this will open a major debate. Some swear by hypo, others believe its major B.S.Its been debated on RC for years.I,personally fall in the later.Believe that copper is the best effort in combating ich/velvet.

byrdman81-good question,as i use RO/DI water in all my tanks.BUT,i did manage to kill both a beautiful C.Mesoleucos, and a C.Flavirostris,by adding water treatments and meds together. The combination escapes me,as this was years ago.The thing is,if you treat with any meds in a HT,try to use RO/DI water only.

Actually,i think i used Clout and Prime when i wiped out my butterflys!

Just browsing and saw this topic.....you can never use Copper containing meds and Prime at the same time.....this comes from a tech at Seachem as I mailed them on the subject...
