Well I have a 55 hex right now w/ a BSJ in the tank however, the lid is missing and for the time being I only have eggcrate as the lid. Would that be enough to prevent him from escaping or should I be using something else?

The eggcrate will not keep the BSJF in the tank. He will easily jump out of those holes. The tank needs to completely covered to insure that he will not jump. The holes on the eggcrate are too big.

No. They can easily get through egg crate as mentioned by steelersfan.

should I just stick to glass or could I just use a screen similar to ones that keep the bugs out of your house or would this be a problem because it would corode with the saltwater?

There are plastic screens that would work.

The glass cover will hold in too much heat and keep surface oxygen exchange down. Both aren't good for your BS.
Lowes carries a line of fiberglass screen that won't corrode. It will warp if you have halides too close to it though. Make sure the frame for your screen is plastic or fiberglass also.
