Pricing Corals

I have a few HUGE leather corals that I believe I am looking to sell. How do I know what to sell them for if I have not seen anything as big with which to compare for like pricing?

personally I would frag the leathers and sell them.....get more cash that way plus the leathers tend to grow pretty fast.

Large corals can be very difficult to price. The problem is that most, not all!, people do not have tanks large enough. When you say large I am assuming you are talking at least 1 foot across. If so, that is a lot of real estate.

I had a "large" toadstool and fragged it up ...sold it all and kept a frag for myself which Im much hapier with now.

Many local stores get upwards of $60 for large finger leathers and most offer %50 retail in store credit for what they take in.

Some of the local owners will pay cash.

If they are of a particular color they may bring more.

I have a very large finger leather that grew onto another rock. I cut the colony in half between the rocks. The rock also had a nice mushroom colony on it that piece brought me $45

This is why I have to get rid of it. I have never fragged anything before, and I'm sure I would do a good job of killing it. It would make a beautiful centerpiece for a good size tank.

I think the mushroom leather would probably go for around $100 as is. Fully open it does reach at least a good foot across. I want to make room for other things as I already have a couple of other really nice musroom leather corals along with some yellow fijis.

$100 probabl,y would be fine for a big leather, and the person who buys it will most likely frag it up.

Fragging a leather couldn't be easier.

Slice it up with a razor into pieces about 1" square
shove a toothpick through each piece
hold the toothpick to a piece of rubble with a rubber band
that's it!

I would be so paranoid about completely killing it! I would try that with one of the smaller ones. Those I would consider doing that to, but not that big one. I definately consider that a show piece.

Coral,

I am in need of a large sarcophyton. Send me a PM and we can discuss price.

If you're not interested let me know.
