Pro Clear Aquatics Sump

Hi, I am brand new to the hobby and am setting up a 72 gallon tank. I was wondering if anyone has any comments or reviews for the Pro Clear Aquatics 150 Wet/Dry Sump Filter? It includes a protein skimmer inside of it. I cannot find any reviews really on the internet for it. I currently have a Rena XP3 canister filter and was looking to buy a protein skimmer when I found the Pro Clear online. I was wondering if I should use this instead of the Rena.

Also I just purchased a 44lb box of live rock from online and opened it up yesterday. There were 6 tiny pieces of rock inside that weighed a total of 12lbs. I called them up and they assured me that I was shipped their 44lb box of rocks. Is this normal to have it so much smaller than advertised??!!

Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

I have it. It's a complete waste of time to be honest with you. The sump isn't bad, but for $200 you can make or even buy a better one. The skimmer that comes with it is absolute junk. There is no where for the skimmate to collect, so it usually just foams over back into the sump/tank.

Search around a bit more and find something better!

Sometimes you will have less pounds of rock because they tend to dry up a bit during shipping and you lose weight there, but going from 44lbs to 12lbs is a little much imo.

In the future, order from Premium Aquatics. Great rock for a fairly decent price.

That's what I was afraid of and wanted to see some kind of review before I bought it, thanks JokerGirl. Maybe I'll just stick with the canister filter for now and buy a HOT skimmer like the AquaC Remora.

As for the rock - after contacting the vendor 3 times and complaining they finally just 5 minutes ago emailed me and said they checked with UPS and confirmed I was only shipped a 12lb box instead of 44! Geez, not a good first experience for me with all of this.

No problem. If you're going to put the money into this hobby, might as well spend the money right now to get the best so you don't have to shell out even more money later to upgrade.
