Problem Keeping SPS

Alk is always consumed way more rapidly than Ca. Given the precision of Ca tests (usually 10 or 20ppm), it's not uncommon for a day of Ca consumption to not show up on tests. .3 dKH isn't much at all, so it could take well over a week before a Ca test kit reliably showed a difference (with zero supplementation) .

Edit: To be more clear, you're using just about 2ppm of cal per day. It could easily be 10 days before that would be measurable.

Okay well that's reassuring, I was worried that a 0.3-0.4 drop in alk a day would be a little too much. I always hear of people having their levels drop drastically in a day and they have a hard time keeping it up.

Right now your tank is idle with alk moving around from evap and usage, no biggie. As long as you keep CA around 400+ you will always get good growth. Alk has to stay within a half point thru ought the day or you can have issues. I wouldn't worry one bit about ca. One day when all your acro tips are white i would start to worry about calcium usage. Until then that wc will keep your ca and mag steady.

How many ml of alk does it take to bring up your alk after 24 hours?

It takes about 15 ml to bring up my alk usually after 24 hours.

That's good. Set it up so your dosing that at night. It helps that morning pH stay a lot higher. If you know how you should look for this tank that's floating around the sps forums. If i knew how id post it. It was a 29bc with a radion pro set really high and all sps colonies. No skimmer runs a 5 gallon wc a week. It looks like stone colds tank just condensed way down. Amazing.

haha okay I'll take a look around maybe I'll find it. Yeah I've been dosing right before lights go out. I also have a refuge at the bottom that runs opposite lighting schedule from my tank in hopes of helping with the ph swinging.
