Problem with 6095 not starting

I have a 6095. Was working perfectly but lately now it is not starting/spinning. I see and hear the impeller jerking but it doesn't spin. I take it out of the water and give it a flick with my finger and still it doesn't spin.

Sometimes I'll flick it or re-insert the impeller and then it will start. I'll put it in the water and it'll go for a little bit then stop.

I have moved the impeller with another 6095 I have and this happens the same. Its seems to be something with the magnet starting it up or something.

I have it on an Apex but this happens even if I straight turn it on vs. controlled.

Hi Josh, please check to make sure the blue disc is in place at the bottom of the shaft. Also make sure the shaft itself is clean and not loose. Soaking the pump in 50/50 vinegar and water for a few hours will help remove any deposits that may be inside. Let me know what you find and we'll take it from there...

Craig,

I checked the pump today. I do see the blue disc at the bottom. Also the shaft is clean and straight and not loose at all. I did soak the pumps this last weekend so they are fairly clean.

I had it out of the water since last night. When I went to turn it on (out of the water), it spins. So then I put it in the tank (spinning) and it works. But then I turn it off for the feed cycle, and then when it tries to come back on, it doesn't spin. I can see it "jerking" or "twitching" but something seems to be stopping it.

My best guess would be the propeller is loose/ seperated from the magnet itself. If you hold the magnet of the drive unit, the propeller should be very stiff and hard to turn and will come to a hard stop, if it is loose, you might try pushing it on firmly, if that doesn't fix it, we can send a new drive unit.

I will try tonight. When I insert the propeller, it doesn't turn easily. It is held in position and when I try to flick it, its not easy. But I will try to insert it again and push down on it harder.

Will let you know tomorrow the results.

Thanks for the prompt responses.

What I was referring to will require removing the propeller assembly, you hold the magnet in one hand and turn the prop with the other. If the prop is really tight in there, it may be some calcium has built up on the shaft, if you soaked it in vinegar/water without removing the prop assembly first, it usually won't clean the shaft are very well.

I tried what you said. The prop is not tight. I did the vinegar soak without the prop in there.

I ran it yesterday and it was working fine all day yesterday. This morning I came out and again it had stopped. I see it twitching like it wants to go but it doesnt. I then took it out of the water and then it started and then I replaced it back into the holder and its spinning now.

But I'm concerned that it stops randomly. Not sure why.

You need a new drive unit, the magnet is likely always spinning and the prop slips, in air the resistance is less so it is more likely to engage. PM me your address and we will send one.
