problem with elos ato

I installed the elos ato yesterday, I'm pretty sure i hooked everything correctly. My problem is that once the pump runs it will start then stop but then the syphon doesn't break and it continues to fill the sump unless i pull the pump out of my ato container. is there something else i should be doing with the output hose? i have it about 8" above my sump level. i'm worried about having more than ~5 gallons in my ato container and it over flowing the sump.
