problem with hermits attacking my clams!

Unfortunately a few weeks ago, one of my crocea clams somehow got a little nick in its mantle. it looked fine for a few days, then i woke up one morning to find about 30 blue leg hermits eating it! it was obviously a gonner. now, i just got home from work, and saw 3 hermits on one of my other croceas. This clam looks like it will be fine if left alone, and it better since it was my first. i am going to go ahead and place him on a clam rack, out of reach from the hermits.

The only thing that has been wrong lately is since my chiller went out, i have killed the MH's down to 2 hours a day (Hopefully the new compressor will be in this week). The temp of the tank has been about 3 degrees higher than usual the past 3 weeks.

Is there anythng i can do, other than start removing the hermits and replacing them with snails (which i should have bought in the first place)? i really dont want to see anything happen to my other clams. Thanks!

start giving them more light. 2 hours is not enough.i would rather see you raise the lights above the tank some then cut the light to 2 hours. how high is the temp getting?
