Problem with Light

I have a Geissmen 2x250 HQi with T5s. Its about 2 years old. Sometimes I notice that my t5s wont start up or they will shut off . I just reset the timer and it goes. The bulbs are about 45 days old. Its not just one bulb that does not work its both. Does the unit have a starter relay that could be bad? Its on a power strip that works some ice cap cooling fans so I know its not the power strip either. Please let me know what I could check. I would hate to have to send it in for repairs. I have a ton of sps

:(

thanks
Jay

Hey Jay,

Sorry to hear about the problems you're having. Some of the older Giesemann fixtures that first incorporated T5's in them had some issues with the T5 ballast that was in there. They have since switched the brand of T5 ballast they're using and all is well again.

Shoot me an email today with your last name and I'll get a replacement ballast on order and shipped out to you if you don't mind replacing it yourself?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Jeremy any updates?? I did not hear back from you on Thursday. I would really like to get the light fixes asap thanks. Jay

Jay,

I scribbled your note on a loose piece of paper on my desk here, rather than my note pad, and I'm sure you know what happened after that, the note was gone! I apologize, I dropped the ball on ya man!

I just got off the phone with Giesemann to see where the ballast were and he explained to me that I should have had them already. So I look over in the "corner" of the warehouse and there it is! I will have this thing boxed up and out the door for you today! Give me a call if you need to when you receive it and I can walk you through the wiring.

Thanks!
Jeremy

Jeremy. I finally got to changing the ballast. I do not see anything at all in the hood that looks like the ballast you sent me. I had it 3/4 apart. I see 2 small units. I reallt do not feel comfortable taking the unit apart any further. I would hate to damage it. I am in a bad position. I do not have a back up unit. The T5s do work but when they get very hot they turn off. Can you please let me know what we can do about this? Thanks Jay

I will PM you my cell #

Jay,

I was out of the office yesterday and have been away from my desk in the warehouse for most of the day today, sorry I couldn't help any earlier.

The older T5 ballasts in there are most likely a different brand, however these are the ones Giesemann is shipping the hoods with now. The end of the new ballast should be color coded with a wiring diagram right on the label of the ballast. You should be able to pull the wires from the existing ballast, and make those match right up with that diagram on the new ballast.

Let me know if this is helping at all.

Thanks,
Jeremy

I do not see anything that big at all. Where would I mount it? Its tripple the size of anything in the hood. From what i can see is that eachT5 is run off indavidual ballasts.

Jay,

I just wanted to follow up to make sure that Phil from Giesemann called you yesterday evening and got everything straightened out for you?

Thanks,
Jeremy

nope nothing. I feel very helpless with this. I know its not your fault though. But I have way too much$$$ invested in my system and try to buy the best so I do not have these types of problems.

Hi Jay,

I just got off the phone with Phil. He said he tried to call yesterday, but didn't get anyone. He said if you called him today at the following number he'd be more than happy to help.

Thanks,
Jeremy
