Problem with my lighting.. Help?

Quiet Tempest

I've been using a Current USA Orbit pc fixture that holds two 96watt bulbs for the past 3~4 years. I replace my bulbs regularly and have never had any problems. Today my 10k bulb just went out. I assumed my bulb had burned out and I would simply need to replace it. When I checked the bulbs, I noticed the 10k was trying to power on but would just flicker a few times before going dead. I switched the 10k and actinic bulbs' placement and the 10k bulb powered on just fine with the other cord/pin/whatever while the actinic now did the flicker and die routine.

Do any of you guys have any idea what could be wrong? Any suggestions on how to go about fixing it?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Ditto on the ballast... :) If there are switches for each bulb, you have two ballasts...

If your ballast is bad you can replace it with a Workhorse5 or a 7.
Commercial Lighting supply in Knoxville carries both of them. They are about $35. each.

Thanks for the help, guys. I've been having a whole lot of stuff piling up on me all of the sudden and this is just one more thing. I'll see about getting the ballast replaced as soon as I'm able. The problem light is working again for whatever reason. It actually started working again the same night I posted this thread. I guess it's just being fickle. Who knows. I'll have the ballast checked out and replaced asap.

You could have a loose or corroded connection on the end connector or its wiring if the problem comes and goes.

If you need help with checking out the fixture or replacing the ballast, send me a PM. I live nearby. And I enjoy an electrical troubleshooting challenge. :)
