problem with my zoa's

I just got these mega people eater frags a few days ago....I put them in my tank, and they don't open all the way. They open partially but they don't even make a nice circle, the polyps looks as though they are squinting and they don't extend out, but look stubby.......Is my light too strong or too weak, I have a JBJ formosa with 2 96 watt bulbs, one actinic and one 10K. At night, when my moon light (3 white leds) are on, they seem to look a lot nicer because they are fully extneded and the polyps open in a nice circle. What should I do....

It sounds like the light may be a bit too strong for them....at least at the moment. I would recommend moving them to a more shaded area and slowly acclimate them to stronger light as time passes.

the 2x96w light is on what size tank?

got any pictures of these mega peoples eaters? never heard of them :)

The 2x96watt light is on a 30gal and I got the frags from a member of this forum; bboyaqua, he has a pic of the zoas as his avatar.

oh ok, those are the green/white speckled PE's (may have some light pink in them).

well, if they came from his 10g nano, they could be quite stressed from bad tank conditions. (just a thought).

IMO thats not enough light for them to look good. but depends on how deep the tank is.

How about the fact that they looked really nice with the lights off and with just my moon lights on...They were stretched out and fully open...but with the lights on, they retract and squint...

not really sure, i doubt very seriously thats too much light. unless, the lights they were under in the previous tank were much MUCH dimmer than yours. then they may not be opening up due to shock to the brigher lighting...

but still, i've put my zoanthid gigantus/protopaly/people eater type zoas directly under a 10k 250w MH, and the polyps were only a couple inches below the surface of the water. they were always completely open but faded quite significantly.
