Problem with new 5017

Hi,

I recently purchased a new Osmolator which I have installed in the last chamber of my sump (as recommended in the instructions that came with the unit). But seem to have a problem with the unit continuing to fill until the high water alarm sounds.

I have done some searching and found a number of possible solutions (I.e. clean sensor, ensure no magnetic fields, etc) but nothing seems to help.

When I first power the unit on everything comes up fine and after its tests the pump stops with the green "level" led lit. Within about 5 minutes the high water alarm sounds (red led also lit), water level is very high (So at least this part works fine !!!) and I have to turn the unit off to stop the alarm.

I thought I would ask here first before I have to send the unit back for testing/ replacement just in case the solution is simple.

Any advice and/or assistance would be very much appreciated.

Is the water always stopping right at the float or filling past it?

If it is filling past it at all I would lean toward a siphon being the cause and that will happen anytime your water level in the reservoir is above the termination of the hose at the sump or tank.

Otherwise the main culprit will be bubbles on the sensor, the sensor only detects air vs water and does not differentiate between any bubbles on it and being dry. You might then try repositioning the sensor further from sources of bubbles.

I should add that bubbles can come from placing the top off hose near the sensors so that the water coming in splashes and produces bubbles, the same can occur near a baffle or dam in the sump. The hose can go to the main tank or any other sump chamber but it should be routed to the main tank if the reservoir is taller than the sump.
