Problem with Octopus NW 150

While I like the skimmer overall, recently it has been giving me problems.

Lately it has had restart problems, and I have to remove the pump and spin the impeller. It is un-modded and setup just like it came out of the box. Yesterday, we had a power outage while I was at work, and didn't get home until over 12 hours later. The power cam back on, but the impeller wasn't moving while the pump was plugged in. After doing my normal restart tricks, the impeller started working again, but then it started tripping the GFCI. Now I can't use my skimmer.

Apparently, I've read were others have had similar problems with the pump.

What should I do? Is there a better replacement pump? Please help.

Hi Justin,

Sorry to hear about the problems. I've heard a couple people with restart issues. I've heard blowing into the airline will start it up, something about the needlewheel not starting up real easy.

The GFI problem sounds like something different though. I would contact coralvue.com about that. It could just be a defective pump and they can swap it out for you.

They seem to be pretty decent pumps overall, for the amount of these models we sell, seems like a low defect rating. If you got to the point where you didnt' want that brand any. Probably the Sedra needle wheel pumps could be retro fitted on the skimmer.
