Problem with Return Pump!!!

I finally fill the new 90 gallon bowfront RR with water, but it's returning more water into the display then it can handle. AC suggested in either Mag drive 700GPH or 500GPH. I got the 700's. Should I go with 500's instead?? I think that's the problem.
Tank full of water and not being able to run after running to Wal-mart since 8:30pm til almost mid-night buying water.

Try to install a valve on the return side so you can turn it down a bit. I'd try to see if there are ways to increase your tank intake though since 10X turnover isn't uncommon in reef tanks.

Did you get 2 700's?
Is it an Oceanic or AGA tank/overflow?
I push about 700-750gph through my AGA overflow with a pump rated at 900gph at zero head.
Your overflow should be able to easily handle the flow from one Mag7.

he bought a reef ready 90 gal oceanic bowfront. I don't know why he said 500's or 700's. I think he has only one pump.

(I helped him set up part of it)

You always need to valve the output of the pump anyways, its rare I would think that the pump will push the exact water from the box to have the flow down the overflow right. In my case anyways :).

He is filling with water from Wal-mart, culligan 5 gallon jugs I bet :).

If you overflow has the capability of accepting more or equal to what your pump can do, then you won't have issues. You're pump will always have overhead due to it being a few feet below where you're pumping to.

My overflow is rated at 600gph. I don't have a valve to choke down my pump, but if I had a bigger pump I'm sure I could pump more. However if his is pumping too much, I think he should get a valve and not downgrade his pump.

You got that right!!! :D

I downgrade to a 500 and that fixed the problem!!!! I'm not too worried about extra flow since I got those modification parts to give it extra flow!!! :D

Here's the new tank in progress, up and running, got a new canopy coming, they're building it right now. It won't be here for another month. Also got 2-250w MH retros with ARO Electronic Ballast with XM 20k bulbs coming next week. :D

That's what it looks like to my color blind eyes everytime I try diving in local waters!
OK, local waters look a little darker, but field of view seems the same. :D

I hope that outlet next to the sump is a GFCI. Looks dangerously close to the outlet to me. A little salt water down that cord and watch out!

Yea, it's close to it. We already know. We're putting a piece of OLD OLD glass that Jerry won't get rid of back there. It will separate the tank from it, no splashing at all!! :)
