Problem with Tunze 1073.090: Any Ideas ?

I use one of these as my sump return however last night it stopped working It starts up and turns over for about 2 seconds then stops, this it repeats around 10 times but always it switches off, eventually after the approx 10th time it stops and cuts out.

I've removed it from the sump and it's currently on my work bench so that I can try to get my head around the problem. I have taken apart what I can and cleaned it and I'm pretty sure when I was doing this I broke the impellor shaft Now it could be that this was already broken and is the reason why it keeps cutting out But I more likely think that it's something else and that I broke the shaft when I removed the front cover at an angle

Does anyone have any ideas ? I can probably get a spare shaft tomorrow and try that but I'm really not sure that will be the fix. I know my LFS has one in stock but wow these things aint peanuts and I was hoping to fix rather than replace...

It would normally run with a broken shaft, but it would be loud. I would guess that the motor has a problem. If it is less than 2 years old you should be able to get it replaced under warranty. The factory opened today for inventory and bookkeeping and you might try tomorrow to reach them by phone. Next Monday will be the first normal business day.

I took it to my LFS today to see if he had any ideas, he thought that it was just the shaft ? He called the factory but as you mentioned they were closed although he got the impression from their recorded message that they were open tomorrow ? He has ordered a shaft plus front cover as the old shaft had seized into this.

Yes the pump is approx 14 months old so warranty should cover it.
