Problem with zoos?

I can't figure out what's the matter with zoos in my tank. Everything else (clams, hammers, mushrooms, kenya trees, bubble anemones, brains, flower anemones, frogspawns, as well as all my inverts and fish) does great. My zoos don't seem to want to open very often and then disappear. As far as I can tell, I don't have any sundial snails or nudibranches.

My fish include: green chromis, red firefish, purple firefish, 2 clowns, lawnmower blennie, hippo tang, powder blue tang, sailfin tang.

Temp at 80, salinity 1.024, calc 440, ammo, nitrite and nitrate 0, ph 8.2. I have a sump with a ASM G2 skimmer.

Anyone know why I can't keep zoos? They're supposed to be the easiest!

do you have any other means of chemical filtration you are using?

so far sounds like you have VERY clean water...possibly too clean, as zoas tend to flourish in water that has more nutrients...

No, just my sump with a berlin bag and the skimmer. Occassionally, I run carbon but haven't in quite a while. I also have an automatic top-off and I do a water change every 3 to 4 weeks.

I used to do every week or two weeks but I'm too busy now. I have the ASM G2 skimmer. Works great!

Be more watchful of those tangs. I know Melev talked about how his Hippo tang had a taste for zoas. That would be my guess.

I've had the hippo for about 2 years now and never saw it munch on anything. I'll have to spy on it some more. I did have a foxface I got rid of a while ago because it liked zoos. I thought I'd be ok once I got rid of it.
