Problems keeping siphon

I just got my sump plumbing completed this past weekend. I cannot seem to keep a siphon to my HOB Overflow for the life of me! It's becoming such a headache, and my sump is STILL not running! Anybody have any tricks or suggestions? Thanks.

keeping it going. i get it started by sucking through an air hose that comes out of a check vavle i installed at the rear of the top of the u-tube. the siphon starts, but once i stop sucking air, it stops.

Don't check valves require something like a liquid to function properly? I don't think air will provide enough force to seal it shut. I would start trouble shooting by pluging/removing the check valve and see if the problem persists.

surf do you have pics?, if level of water in aquarium runs to low then the u tube will start sucking air in, try lowering the weir part of the overflow box, the wier is the part that is in aquarium that has notches on the front to skim the surface of the water. i wish i had pics so i can see your system.

Actually, no need for pics. Lowering the Weir Box worked perfectly. I wish I would have thought of that right away. It would have saved me a headache. Thanks for the advice San.
