Problems with Ick

Last night I saw some white spots on my Tang and it appears that he has Ick. I believe that I had introduced a fish with Ick that I thought was fine after 4 weeks in QT tank. I had a bangai cardinal and they are difficult to detect Ick on because they have white dots on them normally. I can setup a hospital tank and treat the tang but I cannot catch the guy. He is so fast and smart. Does anyone know how to catch this fish?

My second question is should I remove all the fish from my display?

I have the following fish:
Gold-rim Tang (Ick spotted)
Maroon Clown
Fairy Wrasse
Shrimp Goby
Sailfin Blenny
Mandarin

I have no idea how I’m going to get the shrimp goby out either. He always goes under the rock where my pistol shrimp dug a hole. I hope I don’t have to remove all the fish. Please help if you can.. Thanks

Man this is not what you want to hear.....but I would pull them all or at least do what ever it takes to get the sick one. Problem is the stress brought on by netting the one may make the others sick.
I would get the one out asap. before he drops the ICK to the substrate and you're whole tank is done.

As an after thought, maby he was fine in qt and the ICK is IN you're DT already?????????
Have you ever had an out break of ICK in the DT in the past?

This is the first outbrake in the DT. I figured I need to get every fish out. Alot of my fish have relationships like the clown and the goby. I wonder what my pistol shrimp will do without the fish. Or my anemone. I guess its time to get a fish trap because I cannot catch the tang.

Yeah, my biggest fear is having an established colony of ICK in the DT.
Dont quote me on this, but I believe you can have a colony of ICK remain hidden for quite a ling time. It may even Host on a few hardy fish, The hardy fish hardly if ever show signs if ICK, then bang you add a weak or stressed out fish, the ICK gets em and a massive out break occurs.
This is just my opinion, I'm dealing with an on going ick problem in my DT and have removed all fish to QT, They will be in QT for at least 6 weeks. I want my DT free of ICK in the future!

This is what I did went I had ick outbreak in my DT. I also have several tangs and it was hard to catch them. I went and bought Kent garlic xtreme. I soaked the food in it for about 20min. Then feed them to the fish. As long as your fish is eating good they will overcome the ick. Also get a neon goby to help. I soak their food in garlic once a month basis.

I feed them with food soked in Kent garlic xtreme and they are still eating. Last night I caught all the fish except my pistol shrimp Goby.. That fish just keeps going under the rock and I can't net him. Anyone have a good way to get this fish? I want to remove all fish so I can start the hypo-salinity process.

nanz, qt is proven to remove ich, but i should have gone the garlic way, left all fish stress free in your DT and feed them food soaked in garlic, as long as they eat they can fight it off

Leave them alone. Keep stress to a min. Feed a good variety of foods, and keep an eye on them. He should be fine. The ich will stay in your tank for close to a year, but if you have a healthy tank it shouldn't be a problem. Good luck, and be ready to set up a hospital tank if things get bad.

Garlic does nothing except stimulate feeding.
True, but in my experience. A fish that is eating is better than one that isn't.

Ok, so I should put them back in? or is too late now.. I have not started the hypo yet I just moved them to another tank.. 20 gallon.

1 Gold Rim Tang (Ich spotted)
1 Fairie Wrass (Possible ich spotted)
1 Maroon Gold Clown
1 Spotted Mandarin Goby

The Wrasse and the Mandarin look stressed in the QT tank :(

nanz, since you already went thru all the trouble of catching all your fish, then do qt, do hypo for at least 4 weeks and dont put anything in your main tank for that period of time, the parasite will die off and you will be ich free, as for the mandarin, you are going to have to spend extra time with him, try to get him to eat frozen or live mysis etc, check for ammonia often and have some ammonia detox on hand. good luck

The Mandarin does eat frozen mysis. I finally for my last fish out last night. My blenny was a pain to catch. I actually had to pull a rock out to get him. All seem healthy and are eating in the QT. I will start the hypo tonight.
