problems

ok just for informational purposes i have completely redone my tank so both lions are gone and same with the eels. the butterfly is still in there and i picked up a long nosed hawkfish the other day. but enough about that. there are a few problems that im afraid of. #1-the hawkfish wont eat and it seems like he doesnt even notice its there. what is the best food that could entice him to eat? #2-due to the increasing temperature outside, the tank is starting to heat up. the highest temp so far is 85.6. any ways to cool the tank down? #3-the water is getting cloudy and it was fine this morning. do i just need to clean the filter or does it possibly have something to do with the increasing temperature? any suggestions are greatly appreciated. thanks

how long have you had the hawk? Many fish wont eat for a week or so, dont worry just yet.

86 degrees is too hot, if you havent already turn off your heaters completely. YOu may need to have a fan running by the tank in the room. It may not seem like it but the increased circulation in the room will help to lower the temp of the tank.

WHat are your water parameters? Cloduiness can be a sign of a bacteria or algae bloom? Is it cloudy -white or cloudy-yellow? Cleaning the filters may make it worse. Defintely do a large water change.

possibly the heat has caused a bacteria die off which will cloud the water. I would definintely do a 50% water change

I doubt that a temp around 86 would kill off bacteria. When you "re-did" your tank what exactly did you do? Did you tare the whole thing down?

ive had the hawk for about 3 days. im just worried it might die on me without eating for a while but i'll wait a bit. i havent turned the heater off (and frankly i didnt even know it should go off) so i'll try that too. its hard to determine the color of the water but it looks to me like its more on the cloudy yellow side. and when i say "re-did" my tank i just mean i got rid of some fish that wouldnt have worked out in there and im going with a different stock list.

thanks for the suggestions

have you done a water change yet? If not def do a large one.
are you running a fan on the tank?
another thing is that warmer water hold less oxygen, maybe try putting a couple of airstones in the display to help out a bit untilthings settle down.

i did a large water change yesterday and the water seems to be in the process of clearing up. i also unplugged the heater and the temp has gone down to about 82. i do not have a fan on the tank and i dont really have the money for one but im going to wait and see what happens.

Fans in the sump. You can get a decent one for 10 dollars from the drugstore. Just put it downstairs where it blows across open water.
