Probs with Mag Drive. Please help.

Whenever I or mother nature (power shuts off due to stormy weather etc.) shuts off return pump (Mag 7), I have to 'jump start' it. (stick a chopstick in there and get propeller turning again). It works great after that, I just have to get it started. I am setting up my tank again after about two years. Pump has been cleaned and I don't see any probs. Brand new water. Checked and cleaned again tonight then turned it back on. Had to 'jump' it again. It is in sump and full of water. Just worried in case I am not here and no power maybe due to storm etc. then power comes back on and no working pump. Anyone else had this prob. Think maybe its propeller?? The noise it makes while running is not weird but is also not consistent. Sometimes it hums for a few secs then it doesn't (but never stops pumping once started). Again prop looks fine and pump is super clean, almost looks new.

check the impellor for wear on the inside where the shaft goes thru. the hole can get oblonged from trapped debri, etc. throwing it off balance.

a new impellor will solve that problem.

Thanks ricksreef. I was startin to think it had to be prop cuz it works exc. once you get it started. Place I bought it from said that it was normal for the pump to do that. I kinda new better... Yet still wasn't sure.

It could also be the volute (cover).

the hole that centers the impellers can get oblong as well

I have worn out a couple of them... had to get new ones cause the hole in the bottom got way to big causing the impeller to not sit straight.
