Prodibio

Started this morning. After looking at the results of the Reef Booster I believe that this is best giving at night when the coral's PE is maxiumized. Does anyone have thoughts on this?

No thoughts - but lots of interest. The only Prodibio product I can get is Reef Booster so interested in hearing how it works out for you.

When I added an entire ampoule of the Reef Booster to my 75 gal tank last week it seemed like a lot of food to add at once. I wonder if there is a way to dose half an ampoule at a time and preserve the other half but I think the fatty acids in it would go bad. I dosed mine about 1 hour before the lights turned off. I remember reading somewhere that dosing in the evening was the preferred method.

I always dose after lights out...since your feeding SPS and their PE is more profound at this time. This is what has been recommended in another thread by RC members that have been using Prodibio for a quite a while.

Just to add a little more info... you don't want to run ozone or uv if you are using BioDigest/Biotpim. I have also read that it is not recommended to drip kalk. I don't recall the reason behind not dripping kalk and need to re-look into it.

I use 1 amp on my 180, which is about 20% less than should be added. It's when the lights are out, but I can still see that it clouds my tank up pretty good. I shut my skimmer off for about 20mins and when turning it back on the head stays flat for a few hours afterwards anyway. I'm thinking of not shutting it off anymore when dosing reef booster.

I've read that you can keep one of the Prodibio products in the fridge after opening it, but only for up to 1 week then you should discard the rest. I'll have to see which one it is... Does RC let you search within a thread or only return threads containing the keywords? I know which thread has this info, but it is very very long and would take forever trying to find it.

What about dosing reefbooster and bioclean? Same time or different days. Man does it make your skimmer go crazy when you turn it on.

mikeatjac - My first dose of Prodibio consisted of BioDigest Bioptim and reef booster. By the second evening after lights out I noticed better PE in my SPS. Let us know if you begin to see improvements. I have also just started doing weekly 15% water changes verses a monthly WC so I'm sure this has contributed to seeing the benefits as well.

After using the Prodibio product for a while and if you like the results, there are other "companion" products (non-Prodibio) that can further improve SPS growth and color with the continued use of Prodibio. I've posted the info in another thread in our club forum and can post or PM the info if anyone wants it again. I plan to start adding some of these other products in the next few weeks (I haven't bought them yet and they are not avail local).

I don't dose BioClean and don't have much knowledge on this one. Maybe PM Rob for dosing advice. I didn't buy the kit. I bought Bioptim, Digest and reef booster. IMO, these are the "key" components. I'm sure the other additives are beneficial, but I went with the basics when I started with it.

ScubaTC

I guess I need to read your thread. I did not get BioDigest Bioptim just bio clean and booster. My growth is great but more color is my goal.

Guess I need to read more. Bioclean contains biodigest and bioptim. 15 of each.

Now to read up.

Thanks

Joseph, here is where I saw the info about keeping reef booster in the fridge: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=6653799#post6653799

I've been in contact with Prodibio, and while it is true the Biodigest and Bioptim should be used immediately, the Reef Booster can be stored up to a week in the refrigerator. The recommended method is to break open the ampule, then use a syringe to pull out the amount needed. The ampule containing remaining substance should then be shoved into a potato slice and can be stored up to one week in the refrigerator.

Awesome. Thanks for the info ScubaTC. Only one problem. Where do I get a syringe from? Don't you need some sort of a prescription to get that from a pharmacist? I'd like to zap some aiptasia as well if I could get a syringe. Any ideas?

You may be able to get one from Walgreens. Just don't go in there asking for them after you've had about 5 cups of coffee - :fun5: LOL.

I may have an extra one.. will look for it.

I also only got the Bioptim and Digest. I stopped testing my iodine so I won't dose it anymore. It has been 3 weeks w/o iodine and I have not seen a difference. I also dose strontium/molybdenum but I have been using kent. I am going to quit dosing that too since the test kits are 35-45 bucks. The one thing I do not like about the Prodibio is the glass vial. I know one time I am going to cut myself, but since its imported from Europe thatââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s the best container it can be in. Still too soon to see a difference.

I guess this is a dumb question but if Prodibio is going to compete with chaeto then should I not have a fuge if I continue to use Prodibio ? ALso how are constant WC about 10-15 gallons a week going to affect the strength of Prodibio ?

I dont mean to hijack the tread, just wanted to comment, we just got the Bio digest and Bioptim last friday before the meeting. We had just started with the diatoms after switching to the new tank(24g). Within 2 days the diatoms were completly gone and havent come back. I have no skimmer only live rock and rubble. Also, all my corals are opened WAY bigger than I have ever seen. It's really interesting.

I just started using the Bio Digest, Bioptim and Reef Booster today. Let you know if I start to see any changes in my system.

Patrick

Steve,

If my chaeto goes away I am going to fill the void with live rock. Still going to do my water changes as usual. Rob told me to turn off my ozone for a few days after using the product.

For those with smaller tanks (less than 260) that are dosing Bio Digest, what do you do with the extra?
Do you use the whole ampoule, or just the amount you need for your volume?
Since you must use it immediately after opening it's kind of strange they put so much in one amp since it's a waste for the majority of people with smaller tanks.
They should have made it the same strength as the Bioptim (1 amp per 60 gallons).

Just wondering.

we used the entire thing on our 24g 5 days ago and it seems to be working really well so far.
