Profilux Retailer's Help Please: What I need/don't need

Can someone help out with what components I need for the setup I'm looking for? It's a lot of cash $$$ so I would like to fully understand the options and requirements to setup what I'm looking for before comitting to any purchase.

Description follows:

General:
-----------
The absolute must for the entire system is to be able to monitor and control remotely from an internet connection. I travel and need piece of mind, ease of maintenance and stability. The tank is intended for SPS so stability is an absolute MUST!

With that said, could someone elaborate on the options here with the w/LAN card? Does a household desktop need to host the Profilux software or is the controler the host? How will I connect up? Is it an IP address to the controller/workstation that hosts the app and if accessing remotely do I need to remote desktop to the host or is it fully web enabled?

Lighting:
-------------
- 3x 400w metal halid electronic ballasts
- 2 VHO lamps
- * Possibly a low Kelvin PC or VHO bulb of sorts for a refugium latter on opposite light cycle.

How many high amp adapters do I need? Would I require 2x high amp adapters and also 2x 6 outlate adapters? I think the 6x outlate control bars have 2 dedicated outlates for high output. I'm not opposed to multiple 6 outlet adapters as I have a llot of equipment I'd like to remotely keep an eye on!

Cooling/Heating:
-----------------------
- 2x 300w heaters
- Considering profilux 5 fan option directed over the sump surface

* can I control heat/cooling with the profilux by turning fans on? I have several other smart fans and regular fans. Can I link these together?

Water motion/Closed Loop:
------------------------------------
- 2x Dart 3600gph pumps (new baldor motors). 1 plumbed to Oceans Motions 4way and second plumbed to 2x Wavyseas

- Considering several Vortec Eco System pumps on wireless controllers. May opt for Tunze or a combination of both. Curent preference is for Vortecs due to cleaner setup although I do realize the Profilux can control Tunze pumps. Can I go with Vortex? Can I combine both Vortex and Tunze in order to monitor/control multiple power heads and variable flow rates?

Calcium/Alk
----------------
- Deltec Neilson Kalk Reactor (T fed from existing solenoids/floats multi-redundant R0/DI sump auto-top off system).
- Reef Mania Calcium reactor. Would like a safety shutoff for CO2 overdose and also need to read current tank Ph.

* Would be nice to control tank Ph using both Kalk/Calcium reactors in tandem or to at least have a safety regarding these along with necessary H20

Feeding:
-------------------
- 2 feeders on existing timers but would be nice to monitor/control these remotely if need be.

Other
-------
- Considering remote display for cabinet panel view but not if it limits extensibility for other devices.
- Temp monitoring
- Tank Ph
- Effluent Ph
- ORP/Redox
- Salinity (would be extremely nice to control auto-top off based on salinity. If too low then shutdown since in my case, that would mean the auto-top off is stuck on or SW is leaking somewhere.

Thanks

That will allow you to use your profilux software to connect to your device from anywhere in the world that has internet.

Does a household desktop need to host the Profilux software or is the controler the host?
If you have a computer connected to the device @ home, you will not be able to connect from the internet to the device, but you'll be able to control the connected computer.
How will I connect up?
Depends on which scenario you choose, either with the software or with remote desktop.
Is it an IP address to the controller/workstation that hosts the app and if accessing remotely do I need to remote desktop to the host or is it fully web enabled?
The controller has is own ip address. At this time the profilux is not Web enable, but is on the verge of coming out, actually any minute it will come out.

Personaly I would get 2 x 6 outlet and one High Amp.

Cooling/Heating:
-----------------------

You can connect your existing fan to the powerbar and set these socket to cooling

You will not be able to control the vortex other that on/off via the powerbar, but the tunze on the other hand can be controlled via the 1-10v interface and are variable, so that way the profilux can also be used as a wavemaker. oups also does't take any spot on those precious powerbar since they are controlled by the 1-10v.

The profilux can handles all the above either with simple command and with complex Programmable logic

Feeding:
-------------------
- 2 feeders on existing timers but would be nice to monitor/control these remotely if need be.
Would put these on the powerbar and controll them that way.

Other
-------
- Considering remote display for cabinet panel view but not if it limits extensibility for other devices.
The auto-top off, is realy nice, that maximum on-time would be the tool to use, depending on the RO/DI you have I would start with 5 minutes, and if it get trigerred would increase until is doesn't trip the max--ontime. With programmable logic you either Fresh RO/DI or some other Water is the salinity is low.

Hardware list:
Profilux EX
2 x 6 digital powerbar
1 x high amp powerbar
1 x orp probe
1 x conductivity probe
2 x additional levels
1 x SMS unit (if money is no problems)
may forget some stuff
Hope it helps.

That helps tremendously!! Thank You.

A few questions though:

1. Why do you say you would use 1 high amp for 3x 400w ballasts? I've experienced problems firing them through anything but direct wall supply. Does the 2 high amp outlets on a 6 outlet bar work for these scenarios? I've heard that this is fairly comon with IceCap ballasts and many others. Mine are CoralVue.

2. What did you mean by getting 2 additional levels?

3. Any limit to chaining 6 outlet power bars other than available amperage? How many "chains" can be linked stemed from the Profilux controller?

Hi,

Answers in text below, and thanks Lorin for you assistance here. :)

ANSWER - The High amp is a direct supply, what the high amp does it bring in a completely seperate power line and uses one of the six way power bar sockets as a switchign signal only. this has the benefit of spreading the Amp load of your system. As no power bar no matter who made by must ever exceed 15amps total draw.

2. What did you mean by getting 2 additional levels?

ANSWER - The ProfiLux can cater for 3 level sensor enabling you to have auto water change, auto top off and water level alarm all controlled at the same time from the profilux

3. Any limit to chaining 6 outlet power bars other than available amperage? How many "chains" can be linked stemed from the Profilux controller?

ANSWER - At present 24 sockets but this set to change.

There are three key things that profiLux offer above, Proven reliability, expansion, and future proof. if it does not have it now, it will have it in the not too distant future, Profilux is a brand that you do not have to worry about replacing 3 years down the line, it is probably the most foward thinking and advanced controller on the market.

If you have any further questions please feel free to post here as much as you need :)

2 of your 3 MH will be put on the High amp and I believe that the last can be trigerred by a regular PB, but if you want it is way better to have 2 high amp. I just know your budget.

2. What did you mean by getting 2 additional levels?
One comme with any kits, that will do the Auto-Top off and (Automatic Water change only if you have a second sensor)
The second is going to stop the pump from purging salt water in the drain when the Automatic Water change is activated
The 3rd one can be used as a Leak detection.

3. Any limit to chaining 6 outlet power bars other than available amperage? How many "chains" can be linked stemed from the Profilux controller?
A total of 4 x 6 powerbar can be daisy chained.

Thanks very much for the clarification. I'm sure I'll have some more questions in the near future.

Cheers
