Project 180, a peninsula room divider LOG

Wow looking good. Hey i have a question because i will be setting up a 180 peninsula as soon as i move. I notice you floor is hardwood. Do you have to cut that section where the tank will sit or did you just place it over the hardwood. The reason i ask is because the place i might move to has Hardwood floor. ( it use to be carpet but my father in law got it removed and had them install these stivky sided hardwood floor
Thanks in advace

My old tank was right on the hardwood floor...no issues. I can also say that I had my share of overflows with it too.

I refinished the floors after I moved the tank and they came out spotless (actually the floors didn't look any worse than before I put the tank in either). You should be fine...

Did you get the rest of the plumbing done Chris?

Not yet, but getting closer. I've got the Spa Flex run from the back of the stand to the sump area. Just need to finish the two ends and fire up the pump. Could be running tonight, by the weekend for sure.

thanks guys because i was worried i though i heard some people saying that it will buckle with the weight of the tank. or that you would get bumps or raised tile around the tank

Got the return plumbing completed tonight. Took three tries before the water level in the sump was high enough that the pump did not suck air. Once the pump was running I was amazed at the amount of water moving from the sump to the display. I was getting terrible bubbles from both drains. I ended up dialing back the pump and got the perfect flow. Nice amount draining from the display and minimal bubbles in the sump. I then tweaked the water going into the skimmer and did a power off test to verify that I would not drain too much water. All was well.

The loudest part of the display is one of the fans in the light fixture. There is a slight water movement sound but it's blocked out by the noisy fan.

Looks like I will be moving out of the tub and into the display this weekend time permitting.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

Move in day was a success today. Got all the corals, fish, etc from the Tub into the display. So far I haven't seen one of the Anthias but I am guessing it's still hiding. I'll need to get a new clean-up crew as I found 1 large gorilla crab that had a field day on the astrea snails that were in the tub.

The pictures were taken shortly after move-in so things are still a little cloudy and all the fish are hiding.

I've completed some of the electrical work but still have some cleanup to do. Last thing is to finish the panels for the front of the stand, then this project is DONE!

Congrats on getting everything moved over...a large step in the process I'm sure.

So is there anything you can do to quiet the fan down? Or is this the way it's gonna be for you? Maybe a canopy on top...

Just wondering, what else you got on your list that needs done with this project? You should be coming in the final stages with the setup, no?

SVTour - For the fan, I am going to open up the light fixture (one of these days) and see if I can clean it and take some measurements to determine if I can easily replace it. It's not too noisy. For example, while sitting in the kitchen for dinner tonight we can have a normal conversation and still hear the TV in the other room, so it's really not that bad.

There are several clean-up items on the "to do" list. In no particular order :D

~ Drain the Tub, clean it and remove it from the basement. The tub will be saved for a future frag tank, but that is a couple years out. I left a couple power heads and a heater in there. So far I've found some small creature almost everytime I've walked by.
~ Remove the light pendant that was the light source for the tub
~ Several small electrical clean-up items to take care of.
~ Trim for the stand openings. They are just ruff finished
~ Doors or panel for the stand openings. Was originally going with panels, but may change to doors. Not 100% sure yet.
~ Massive clean-up of the basement and garage. Both were my staging / building areas and I made several messes.
~ Connect the Kalk reactor. Right now I just have the ato connected to a fresh water supply.

With all that said, today I had to celebrate the new tank, so I added 2 peppermint shrimp, 3 Nasirius snails and a green clown goby. All additions looking good after a nice acclimation.

Tonight I hooked up the AC Jr and a DC-8 to control the lights. Had a hard time getting it to work until I stopped and looked to find that the cable I made didn't have the correct pinouts. I didn't realize that the cable needed to be a rollover with R-Y-G-B on one end and B-G-Y-R on the other. I had both ends the same (straight through) and couldn't figure out why it didn't work.

I still need to connect the DC-4 in the Sump area, just need to re-do a couple other electrical items first.

I'd definitely like to see some pics once you get the panels / cabinet doors on there.

Only thing about making them accessable is having someone throw junk underneath...but since it doesn't look like you have much in the line of plumbing in there, I think you would be okay. Besides, creating an extra storage area always scores bonus points with the wife.

Got some clean-up work done over the last couple nights. I believe that all of my electrical work is done. I should post a picture as I think the work is both functional and clean. I hooked up the DC-4 to the AC Jr and have the Fuge under it's control. Also found some time to connect the Kalk reactor. I plan to run a full set of water tests as well as do a water change this weekend.

I think the next item is to get the tub drained, cleaned and out of the basement. Once that's out of the way I will remove the hanging light and give that part of the laundry room back to my wife.

LOOKS NICE WHAT KIND OF LIGHTS ARE THOSE?

I bought the lights from a local reefer that got out of the hobby. I was told they are from an eBay store. I have not been able to find the seller or any information online.

It's 3 DE 250W MH, all XM 10K bulbs, suplemented with dual VHO Actinic bulbs. Other than one of the lights being yellowish in color, which is a known issue with XM bulbs, I really like the color.

The Tub is outa here!!!!

Today I spent several hours removing the little critters that remained in the Tub. I had left a heater and a couple power heads in the tub after removing everything last Saturday. I didn't do any topoffs so the salinity was a little high. I was amazed to find a 7" brittle star along with 2-3 hermits and a ton of other little "things". Once I was satisfied that I had gotten out all that I could, I drained the tub and did a basic cleaning to get any loose debris out. I wanted this thing out of the laundry room so bad that I drug it out of the room, across the basement, up the stairs, through the kitchen and family room and got it out into the back yard. My wife was amazed that I got it out of the house all by my self.

The Tub is gone!!!

I have taken some pictures over the last couple days. This is from the kitchen looking down the side.

Also thought I'd post some pictures of the electrical work I completed earlier this week.

From the back of the sump, this is the left Power Pole. The top is a DC-4, two outlet boxes in the middle and a DIY ATO on the bottom.

This is the right side Power Pole. Not as much in use over here, so there's plenty of expansion room.

And since I was in the area, here's a picture of the front side of the sump. Refugium is on the top.

Just read your thread and I'm very impressed. So well thought out. Congratulations! Looks fantastic.

How does the media reactors function off that manifold? thanks.

Thanks Mike!!

The manifold is on the output side of the return pump. Each of the two ports has a ball valve so I can turn a specific port off as well as a gate valve so I can adjust the flow through the port. I also left some pvc and a cap on the end so I have the ability to expand in the future if needed. There are many people here on RC who have used manifolds that are much better than mine. I just used their idea and sized it to my needs.

Looks really good, Im glad to experience this from the start!

Thanks !!! It's been a long journey! Between last Saturday's move and yesterday's work, I feel like an old man. I've got aches and pains in my legs, back and arms. It's all worth it!!
