Project 90

I know of a very nice 75 gallon tank that has a good set of lights, has been drilled already and would be an excellent start if you haven't already bought one.

So here's a couple update shots...

Nitrates are down to 0 and all is looking good. I've started moving a couple of the "less valuable" SPS and softies to the new tank. I want to take it slow and not launch a massive RTN if something is wrong.

This is a shot under actinics only. Coming from the T5 setup over the 40 to the MH setup on the 90 has a couple of the colonies a little unhappy.

One of the main reasons for getting all new rock was the red turf algae plague I'm battling in the 40. Any of the old rock that's in the 40 with algae on it is getting tossed into the backyard to really "cook." The problem is any of the rock I have corals attached to that has the algae on it I have to spend some quality time with the dremel getting it off. I'll pull a couple out, grind it down and put it back in. It's a slow process but I hope to ditch this stuff once and for all. It's no hurting corals from what I can tell but it's quite a nuisance when it covers every horizontal surface in the tank. Here's a shot to give an idea of what it looks like.

And finally, a shot of the 40 with 90% of it's rock out. I've put all the corals on the bottom of the tank to rest until it's time to move them. It's a sad, sad picture. I cried a little :)

Here's a "before" shot for comparison.

You really had that 40 going, but it was starting to look crowded:lol:
You've done a really nice job with the 90. Keep us posted.

I cried a bit when I saw the pics of the 40 gallon. You need to bring it back by linking the two systems to gether and making the 40 gallon into a propogation tank like I am doing. How cool would that be, then you could grow out frags with out having to mess with you main tank and then you could give them to certain sweet indiviuals such as my self....;)

Come by and push that back wall out about 10ft for me and I'll see what I can do - then you can have all the frags you want :).

Speaking of frags. I have quite a few "accidental" frags from all my grinding and cutting for the red turf algae. Come by this week and get the pick of the litter if you want, otherwise they're going to Armchair.

Latest shot.

After seeing how alot of people are liking the Reeflux bulbs I decided to get 2 12ks for the 90. And I have to say I really like these. They're 12k but they're more white than yellow plus they look 100 times more intense than the XM 20k I had. Add the 2x54w T5 actinic+ bulbs and I really like the look.

This shot looks a little blue since I didn't adjust the WB but it gives the idea.

Roger that, I need to bring you your payment anyway. I will give you a call either tonight or tommorow as soon as I know more about that little endevor.

Oh and thanks a buch Chris, they work beautifuly.

The stand is a little under 50" long. It's basically a box with no center supports so I have more room underneath for sump, etc.

Long time no post pics so I thought I'd put some up.

Everything is growing like weeds in the tank now. Everything is settled and the coraline algae is taking over.

On the downside it looks like I lost my battle with the red turf algae. In the back of my mind I knew it would return so I'm not all that crushed. It doesn't hurt any of the corals, it's just not pretty to look at.

Anyways - here's pics.

Wow stuff really is going like a weed. Looking great Chris, do you think it is the calcium reactor that is keeping all the levels stable or are there other things you are adding?

By the way I have that foam cooler I need to give back to you, and we also have a bunch of those big ones that they ship animals in at the lab. Would you want the big ones?

It's all calcium reactor. I don't dose anything. In fact I hardly touch the tank other than to clean glass, change filter bag, and clean skimmer. I love where it is right now - hardly any work to keep up.

Oh and just toss that cooler. I have plenty here, in fact I'm culling a few b/c they take up too much space.

Got any frag that you are willing to trade or sell?

Tomoko

I "made" a few frags recently when I was clumsily scraping the glass. If you see anything you're interested in let me know and I'll get some closer pics.

What is the tall blue acro up high toward the back of the tank? What color are the smaller bluish acro colony and the larger lavender looking colony near Seio in the 2nd to the last picture?

Tomoko

The tall blue acro was sold to me as a Sky Blue Loisetteae. I call it the blueberry stag but it's one of the fastest growers. I've had that piece about 8 months and when I got it was about 1".

The smaller bluish acro is Chip's Acro. It's a metallic blue color with tannish polyps. I'll get a closer pic of it.

The lavender looking colony is a red Milli.

I'll get some closeups today and post.
