One month and it needs a trim, lol.

Even more growth!!! I really need to trim it. The blisters are totally attached and they wont come off the rock now, so a trim will be safe to undertake.

Liquidg great work on that propagation how did you secure it and what flow did it like
I have been chasing red macro for a long time I would love to get some.
I live in Toowoomba Qld or any tips on finding it

Your pictures are incredible!

I have had Halymenia in the past but plants in my tank generally waste away. Perhaps my ATS out competes for the nutrients but adding a fare amount of fertilizer doesn’t help.

Could you PLEASE give us HOW TO of growing this stuff. I see that it is offered for sale on ebay but I don’t know if what is being offered would flourish as is, whether I need to ask about blisters or not. How do you determent what to look for? How exactly do you propagate it, keep it alive? How much of what do you feed it? Do you need to start it in a separate tank? Can it do well in the main tank? ETC.!

Please take a few moments to help with the A to Z’s of Halymenai.

PLEASE?

P.S. Oh ... I just did a search on the net and found another listing that looks like yours but conformation is slow in coming.

Nice colors, with the corals mixed in there!

As herring fish said, any info on the plants would be great. I've got some red macros myself, so I'm very interested in your experience.

Cheers!

With respect to red macros, iodine is necessary for healthy growth. I also dose with iron and kelp concentrate.

Thanks,

I looked it up and it looks like a great fertilizer. The one that I saw said that it works well in conjunction with fish fertilizer which I used to use to stimulate flagging growth in my ATS.

Do you ever use fish fertilizer as well or is it something that I don't want to put in my tank?

I use kelp concentrate for the trace elements. I only recently read that ORA uses iodine supplements for there red macro algae. I always add iron once a week. If growth looks week, I add ammonia as a nitrogen source.

Cool thanks

I guess that when I started, I will need to buy a Red Sea Reef Colors Pro Kit - Reef Care - Iodine, Potassium & Iron test kit so that I can does all three when needed to and still stay out of trouble.

While I do not test for potassium, I have had my Red Ogo tested by an agriculture lab.
Potassium was the highest of all, by five fold over nitrogen.
