Propeller Pumps Qs?

Anyone using one of these new fangled in-tank propeller water pumps? I am interested in possibly using one in my new 60gl to get a nice strong current whipped up. Does any one know how good these work and where to buy em?
Thanks!
Ryan

I think so, I seen an artical in a saltwater aquarium magazine about them but they didnt get into alot of detail. They look like a boat propeller in a round housing...

If that is what it is, I seen one at a Lfs in jersey. They are a awesome idea in that you can program the gph. When I upgrade from my 90g one day, I want to get them.

I haeard some is making those for sale...or is someone making a parts kit to purchase to modify a standard powerhead?
Are you talking about the MJ-Mod?

Here's pics of all that were mentioned above.
Which one were you talking about?

The VorTec is the one that is magnetic driven thru the glass:

The Koralia:

The Tunze Nanostream:

And finally, the MJ Mod kit:

what do the tunze nano stream run? btw john your frags are great i'm gonna post pics later. the black cherry is sweet and so are the bahama mamas and the other one. all opened up right away.

Right now the only model available is the Tunze Nanostream 6025 for about $60 and it's flowrate is listed as 660gph.

The 6045 and the 6055 are supposed to be available sometime around the end of March.
The 6045 pushes 1189gph and it should run around $100.
The 6055 is controllable from 264 to 1453gph and should run about $200.

Glad to return the favor.
I love all the great frags I got from you.
I'm really digging the little green kenya tree I got from you at the swap.
Within 10 minutes of going in the tank he was standing tall and happy. :D
Btw, how fast does that one grow?

good glad you like it, it is hard to get in a pic the green part but it is sweet imo. they grow fairly quickly if not very quick.

I got 2 of the tunze nano 6045's for my 90, and love them. they are so small compared to the compition, and run quiet. here is picts of them next to a maxijet 1200

How much do they for for?

The Koralias are available from dr foster and smith.

The vortec has no electric in the water. That is a huge plus in my mind.

The downside with the vortec is that you can't angle them. With my tank layout, that's a deal breaker for me.

I've always like large Tunze pumps because they're low-voltage DC motors instead of standard AC powerheads. Does anyone know if the nano streams are the same? How about the koralias?

does the tunze wavebox negate the need for powerheads or is it best used in combination w/ the streams?

I have a local buddy that has a vortech, and it came out of the box with alot of problems, and after getting parts to fix it it worked OK for a while, but... I would stay away from these for the money. $350 for a pump littered with problems, and you can not aim them? ummm not for me.

nano's 6025, and 6045 are normal ac current, and do not work on controlers. There has been some talk of the 6045's not putting out the stated flow, but I have only 2 in my 90, and it moves some stuff around nicely. Korilias would have been my choice but them things are just sooooooo big compared to the nanos. I think I might be biased tword the nanos since I have them, but I put them in the tank, plugged them in and had no problems.

The nano 6055's are DC current and can be run on a controler, but they are not out yet.

keinreis, thanks for the info. A buddy of mine has also had some issues with his Vortech, and its battery backup unit.

Another question - can you compare your nanos streams to the standard models? Do you get the same style of broad, gentle flow, or is it more focused due to it being a smaller pump? I'm considering a 6055 down the road to combat some low flow areas where a 6000 or 6100 would be tremendous overkill.

nice wide flow, and it it cool how they swivel. the mount cups the round part of the pump, and can swivel in almost any direction. it is hard to describe, but it is cool. I am not sure if you have seen the normal streams in person, but after I saw them I was not about to put them in my tank as they are absolutly huge, and the magnet mount is obnoxious. the mount on these is small, and the pumps themselfs are small, but have nice wide gentle flow.

I have two 6100s in my tank currently. They're pretty large, but not obtrusive in a big tank. I have mine mounted on Algae-Free magnets instead of the larger Tunze ones.
