Proper Quarantine Procedure

I will be receiving a wrasse and some anthias from liveaquaria.com, and planning on QT'ing the fish in a partitioned off section of my 30 gal. refugium. The thing is, the refugium (obviously) is plumbed in with the main tank and sump so it shares the same water.

Is this OK? I'm sure that to minimize the possibility of introducing disease/parasites to the display tank, the QT tank should be a closed system with its own water, but I can't easily do that right now.

How long should the fish be QT'd?

Thanks.

i read 21 days for the time length.

id like to hear what others have to say about the proper way to qt.

also if a 10gal tank would be large enough

I think you might be defeating the purpose of a QT, for example it is my understanding that if you introduced a fish with ick to your QT tank and if its connected to your main display, it will flow through and possibly attack your other fish, Then it will not be a QT tank. The purpose of a QT is to keep away from others, isolate, and keep and eye on to either treat for a specific desease. or to keep an eye on and make sure the fish is totally healthy before you go and add him to your display where other fish may be at risk. Keep seperate.
I think a 10 gallon might do the job for a small fish, but much will depend on the size or type of fish. There are some fish that may become sick from stress if put in smaller tanks.

a recent article ive read said to qt new fish so that you don't transport any parasites etc. into your main tank.

basically it said that just cause a fish looks healthy at the dealer doesn't mean it's parasite/disease free.
