proper system for octopus

i am looking into a proper filtration system to keep a octopus. at present i have a wt dry and about 40 lbsof rock. not sre if a octopus i a predator. i have read that they are so this is why i am posting this here.

They are predators, correct in that one. You will need a super tight lid, anything that has openings or isn't held down tight enough an octopus will escape from. Also, you want perfect water conditions, they are pretty sensitive.
 
Agreed..tight lid. I read a story somewhere where an octopus would leave his tank at night get into the fish tank along side. He would eat his fill and go back to his own tank. Took the owner a while to figure out where all his fish were going! If i am not mistaken the water temp should be on the cool side as well.

I think everyone's heard that story, but no ones ever shown factual documentation.

Temperature depends on where the octopus came from. Bimacs are really the only species common in the trade that need cold temperatures, preferably mid-sixties. Others are fine at typical reef temperatures.

And yes, if you scroll down in the main forum menu, there is a "Cephalopod" forum for octopus, cuttlefish, etc.
