With a used tank, you never know for certain what it's history is (unless it had one owner and a build thread, no Carfax!) You may end up with something nice or a lemon (had my share of used tank lemon failures!) Cost is considerably lower, can be $1 a gallon. Have to be on the look out and often the used tank you want comes at a time you were not expecting or ready for it. May get something really nice for a good price but need to put in some work to fix it up.
New tank you can get what you want when you want but you need to shell out more $$$. Often comes with a warranty, but you may need to go with the whole manufacturer package to get it (stand and tank).
