Protecting Your Aquarium During Home Repairs

Hello,

I am seeing if anyone has suggestions on how to protect an aquarium during a home repairs.

We had a water leak and the floors and drywall are getting replaced in our kitchen and I have my aquarium just a few feet away from the kitchen.

I'm thinking of leaving the lights off and throwing a sheet over the tank to protect from any dust entering the water. Does anyone have any recommendations on what they've done to protect the tank from particles in the air or being bumped by workers?

Unfortunately I can't be home while they're doing this.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I'd use a tarp. If you meant a bed sheet, that wouldn't prevent all dust from getting through. If you are worried about them bumping it, you also could move furniture in front of it to help prevent them from walking too close to it with their equipment etc.

This is what we did also.

I used a tarp also. And depending on how long the renovations are going to take, I would consider changing your photoperiod to later so the tank gets some light when the workmen have left for the day.

I'm pretty sure they sell giant polyurethane bags at the u-haul stores to cover furniture and mattresses. I would get one of those and double up with the tarp. Don't forget the sump!

Painters tarps are pretty good.

When I finished the basement - started with concrete block, ended up with 2200sf more living space - my 150 sat down there the whole time, uncovered, collecting sawdust, drywall dust, paint splatters, etc and never had any trouble at all.
