Protein Skimmer Clearance

I've decided to sell off a couple of the test units that I've just recently finished working with. These units are only a few months old and were only operated for an approximate 45-60 day test period. They are basically brand new.

The ASM skimmer comes with the new pump that All Seas Marine is now utilizing, it’s a Sunday GX500 which is rated a bit higher than the standard Sedra 3500 they were using. I tested one G1X with the Sedra and one with the Sunday, and I found that the Sunday GX500 pump produced a more uniform level and consistency of foam.

The Pro Clear Aquatics skimmer is a down-draft model with a self-cleaning venturi valve. It’s actually one of the best skimmers that I tested so far in relation to consistent production and output of skimmate. This unit has only just been officially released, and I have to say that I was quite impressed with how it performed.

I still have all the packaging and materials for the G1X, but I did not keep the box for the Pro Clear. You could probably turn around and sell either of these units for more than I’m selling them for here, but I just have too much clutter in my garage at the moment and need to make some work space.

my pick...

my pick...

personally, I reallly like the Pro Clear. It's built like a tank, and it made me a firm believer in the efficiency of the down-draft design. It worked right from the start, without any of the break-in period you experience with some skimmers. It's a really nice unit.

I'm still running a coralife skimmer in my 55. :( I wanted to upgrade to something that would be able to skim a larger tank when I upgrade to a larger size. Probably something around 120-150 gallons. I haven't heard of these skimmers before. Would this be something that would work for my plans?

The ASM G1-X is one of the most popular skimmers in the hobby. Just type the name into a search engine and you will find a wealth of information relating to it.

ASM Protein Skimmers use a needle wheel design to create a finer bubble for highly effective skimming action! Just set it in the sump, plug it in and adjust the outlet tube!

- Gallon Rating: up to 150 gal.
- Pump: 1 x GX500

The Impact 200 combines down draft design with a Venturi. Because of the air injection method, large quantities of bublbes and water are produced utilizing a smaller pump.

New design is more efficient for the pump creating a high rate of flow which is ideal for heavily stocked aquariums and/or reef tanks.

Low maintenance, and made for years of dependable use. Self cleaning input valve never needs adjusting.

Gallon Rating: up to 200 gallons; 400 GPH waterflow

Bonus: I'll even throw in a free 10G glass aquarium with each skimmer!
(They're taking up valuable real estate in the garage)

What type of pump does the pro clear need? How expensive is it? I'm interested in either one of those actually. Anything has to be better than my coralife and my tanks is stocked on the heavy side...

The Impact 200 works best with pumps rated between 700-900GPH.
They specifically recommend the CA 2200, but I think that there are much better options than that.

I also have an AquaC Remora that I would be willing to let go reasonable cheap. It does not come with the pump (so you would probably need to pick up an MJ1200 for it). It's 4 months old, and was used for approximately 3 months. It would work great on any tank between 20 and 40 gallons. I had good success with this unit and recommend it highly. The only reason that I'm even willing to sell this one is because I currently have two.
